I have a Sony Vaio laptop. I would like to add a Bluetooth device - speaker. My model evidently is not bluetooth ready.
Is there software that will make it so?
My research has reveled that there are adapters that come on CD. But my CD on this machine is not functional.

Just look up “Bluetooth speakers” on Google. You’ll find lots of them.
They come with a little USB-to-Bluetooth adapter. You just plug it in one of your USB holes and you’re in biz.
Since a computer question came up, ZoneAlarm on my laptop keeps reporting that “G” wants to run at start up. I could not find anything on the internet about what this “G” is. Help.

They usually don’t come with a bluetooth adapter. You can buy a bluetooth 4.0 adapter (the latest version) for about $10 on amazon. They are little USB dongles. Then get any bluetooth speaker you want.
Google “bluetooth usb” and you will see adapters available that should do what you want. I expect you would also have to install supplied software drivers. You should read the technical requirements to be sure your version of operating system supports bluetooth.
Look for a bluetooth dongle at Amazon or wherever you like to shop. They plug into your VAIO’s USB port. Get one with a good user rating since the crunmy ones don’t connect well or lose connection easily.

Plugs into your earphone jack on you laptop and is a Bluetooth transmitter.
Your speakers have a Bluetooth receiver I assume
Works well. Actually I use HDMI to monitor and monitor earphone jack to broadcast music to my wireless speakers
Concur.. Neither of the sets I have bought came with an adapter. I bought something like this (as stated, $10 on Amazon):

99 cents, free shipping. If windows or Mac laptop, then no additional drivers will be required. Will just have to figure out how to put it into 'discover' mode to pair it to a bluetooth speaker.
Tell ZoneAlarm to block/quarantine/eliminate it. Likely trojan horse threat.
That looks like exactly what I need. My earphone jack is messed up.
Echoing others, it is pretty cheap to find them online. You may even find one at a CVS or Walgreens. Certainly a Best Buy or office supply store.
Likely you will not need to install any software as the PC will automatically have the correct drivers as Bluetooth is universal.

Thoughts on 2.0 vs 4.0?

2.0 is by far the most used version; 4.0 is not necessary for your application (low data rate devices, especially sensors). 3.0 has a HS/Hi-speed mode, which could be useful for music fidelity.
Looks like the ebay options bump the price to ~$5 for the 3.0/4.0 models (looks like if you go for something higher than 2.0, then may as well go for 4.0).
For another $1 or $2 you can then add USB 3.0 - the higher speed version of the USB interface... that is, if your laptop supports it. If made within the past ~18 months or so, then it is possible. If not, then it’s most likely a USB 2.0 interface, but either way, it’s not a big deal.
Bluetooth is hardware, not software.
