Has Mission: Impossible Gotten Better Than James Bond?

The spy/espionage sub-genre of movies is in no danger of petering out. This year alone brought us big films like The Man From U.N.C.L.E., Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation and Spectre, the latest James Bond adventure; not to mention news that another big spy franchise (Jason Bourne) will be continuing, as well.

With so many spies out there playing cloak and dagger games across the silver screen, it’s not surprising that there could be some creative bleed-over between franchises. Mission: Impossible 5 and James Bond 24 were especially similar: both featured stories where the franchise hero had to uncover a secret organization influencing world events, while essentially being on the run without their usual team backup and resources.

How about Paul Blart as Bond. James Bond..?

I can’t believe that over 100 villains have been in Bond movies. Wow.

Top Hat is my fave.. Or is it Chop Hat?

You mention Tom Cruise here and you might as well said that you are all in for Bernie sanders. So I won’t mention any particular actors but I will say that I greatly enjoy the Mission Impossible movies but Daniel Craig puts me to sleep.
I’ll add that Collateral and it’s main character Vincent are two of the most underrated entities in movie history.

Yep, I’ve read two reviews of the latest James Bond movie — SPECTRE and both say that this is just a Mission Impossible rip-off, with Daniel Craig simply coasting in his role.

Many are predicting that this will be his last James Bond movie.

Quote from article: Mission: Impossible 5 and James Bond 24 were especially similar: both featured stories where the franchise hero had to uncover a secret organization influencing world events...

Art imitating reality: Does SPECTRE stand for:
Soros
Executive for
Counter-intelligence,
Terrorism,
Revenge and
Extortion, by any chance?

Unfortunately, this is NOT sarcasm!

I have never once seen a single Mission Impossible movie.

The reason:

Tom Cruise

Yeah, I enjoy Mission Impossible and the Bourne* movies more than Bond these days. I don’t really care about the politics of the actors in the movies I like to watch.

If Hillary loses the election, she can play Rosa Klebb.

Skyfall was an exciting movie. Spectre was just a bunch of disjointed fight scenes and things being blown up strung along for a couple of hours. Craig did not seem to be in the role wholeheartedly. I’m still trying to figure out the ending—he gets the blond and they stay together forever, or is that just a tease for the next Bond movie-—”And Baby Makes 3”?

I think I heard he has said “never again” to the James Bond role, which probably means we will be subjected to a remake of Never Say Never Again in about 15 years.

I haven’t seen the latest installment of either, but MI Ghost Protocol was my favorite of either series. The scenes on the Dubai Tower alone made it worth the price of admission, and I’m amazed at Cruise doing his own stunts for that. Just watching it on my TV is more than enough for me.

The only spy movie that had muslim terrorists that I can recall is Ahnuld's and James Cameron's True Lies.

Not bad for a rino and a libho.

This is mildly off topic, but I wish on movie posters they would put the actor’s name above the actor. For some actors, I can recognize them, most, not so much. On that poster, the only one I know is Jason Statham. From process of elimination, I can guess which is Jude Law, but I do not know which is Melissa or Rose.

The movie was riddled with things that were there just so they could be there. There was a white cat there solely to have a white cat with Blofeld because that is what he had in earlier movies. The movie would have been slightly better if they cut the fight/chase scene through London at the end.

That said the motive for all the action in the movie appears to be Blofeld setup an organization to spy on everyone (quite literally) so he could get back at Bond for a perceived slight from 30 years prior. They may need to just kill the franchise to prevent it from getting worse.

I love that movie. Between Robert Shaw or Lotte Lenya as Rosa Klebb, I can’t decide which one is more nasty. Interesting side note, she was married to composer Kurt Weill, of The Threepenny Opera (Mack the knife) fame.
