He is a 1970's legal immigrant from New Zealand who worked hard and has done very well.

We are doing okay, not great - but probably at the expense of our closest competitors (who I overhear complaining louder than ever about slow sales). The economy is shrinking, but our superior quality and customer service are staring to pay dividends - after we resisted years of temptation to do things faster and cheaper like everybody else. Our customers are in the top 10% in income, and they are loyal. Good luck trying to sell anything to the Walmartians these days.

America remains over-retailed. A 40% shrinkage is coming, almost regardless of future political events.

He gets the employes through a recommending organization run by Catholics.
They act as a sort of screening/recruiting/employment office for him.

In our area golf courses have been overbuilt and many are turning into housing developments.
