LINCOLN — Finally. It was Nebraska's turn for some late-game heroics. The Huskers stunned undefeated Michigan State and snapped the Spartans' 12-game winning streak Saturday night with an improbable game-winning drive — covering 91 yards in 38 seconds — to earn a 39-38 victory. NU got the ball back without any timeouts trailing by five. And quarterback Tommy Armstrong went to work. He found Jordan Westerkamp for gains of 28 and 33 yards on back-to-back plays.

Ben Carson was asked to be quarter back but went on to “run for president”.

This tells me that The big 10 is crap. Did you know that SMU almost beat Temple. I think Ohio State is junk. That entire region couldn’t beat a mid level SEC or Big 12 team. And Clemson— What a joke. What is the strength of schedule in the ACC? ZERO!!

Announcers were seemingly convinced the NU receiver was out of bounds and thus the TD wasn’t a TD. The review of the play said otherwise but it certainly looked as if he was out on my TV. Nevertheless. Congrat Nebraska !

Well, when Clemson has played ranked opponents this year, they have beaten them. Notre Dame (#5) and Florida State (#11).

Match that to their unbeaten record, beating other schools like Louisville, Boston College, and Miami...well, they are getting the ranking.

Temple isn’t in the Big 10, but I’d like to know how the hell a 20 point loss is “almost beat”ing someone.

You’d better watch out for North Carolina, they’ve got a very potent offense.

The article makes a huge error. In college ball it does not matter if the defender forces the receiver out of bounds. An incredibly strong safety could grab a jumping receiver before the receiver touches the ground and carry him to the sidelines to dump him out of bounds. The correct call would be incomplete.

Any Husker fans here, do not get used to these wins. Riley is addicted to passing and cannot fathom the proper use of a running back.

Last year, at Oregon State, he had a running back, Storm Woods, who lead the Pac 12 in yards per carry at 6.7. I watched in stunned disbelief when we, OSU, had the ball inside the 20 with 3rd and 18 inches, Riley called a fade to the back corner of the EZ...TWICE!!! to turn the ball over on downs.

Like an alcoholic, he repeatedly acknowledged that they should run more, then promptly returned to the pass (his drug of choice).

He is a very nice guy, a very good man and a good teacher....but he is a bad game-day coach.

He was lucky to win this one - had he not, he might be unemployed tomorrow.

Wrong. It does matter if the defender forces him out or not. If the DB by foul or force causes a WR to exit the playing field the WR has to reestablish himself to make the catch legal. The replay booth reviewed whether or not he was touched before going out. If he wasnt it would be an incomplete but replay showed contact.

If Nebraska could only play this well every week they’d be back in the top 10.

A lot of heart displayed tonight by a group of players who certainly could have folded after a disastrous season. Congratulations Huskers!

Aaaah, yes - if it was a pre-catch out of bounds call, that is exactly correct, except there would be a 5 yard penalty on the receiver for illegal touching if he was not forced out or did not properly re-establish himself inbounds. Furthermore, the receiver must re-establish himself inbounds as soon as possible.

I thought it referred to a post-catch OB question. In that situation, different from the NFL, whether or not the defender forces the receiver out after the catch but before he touches in bounds, does not change the call. The defender could legally carry the receiver from the middle of the field, after a catch and before touching the ground, and dump him OB for an incomplete.

I know it sounds ridiculous to say, but we actually are within just a handful of points and under 60 seconds of playing time from a 9-1 season, playing much like we played today—sloppily, with poor clock management and being very reliant on huge, game-ending plays.

This game-ender finally went our way, we beat a very good team finally, and I will take it.
