Bring your (lib) friend to the range

Posted on 11/01/2015 12:30:23 PM PST by AQuietThinkingMan

I read a lot of opinion and "fact" from the gun-control lobby and its acolytes on Facebook and social media. Much of it is fear based and misleading if not outright falsehoods. Just responding with verified fact isn't likely to change minds because those with a particular mindset will not likely change by reading an article (if they even go so far as to read it.)

I think it would be valuable to offer to bring your friend to the range to introduce them to guns and demonstrate to them safety and the proper handling of weapons.

For many, I believe it is the fear of the unknown - most people who are not in the "gun culture" have been indoctrinated by the gun control lobby and movies and popular culture. If they realize that a gun doesn't just "go off" when handled properly, maybe some of the fear will be reduced.

Thanksgiving week would be a great week, as many families get together and you can bring your favorite lib to the range.

I do try and introduce people to firearms, and I have taken sveral coworkers to the range.

However, w.r.t. the real died-in-the-wool liberals (aka “progressives”), the only positive outcome would be of your intent was to strap them to a target stand.

Naw, just take them down to Guantanamo and put them in a Cage with one of their Jihadi Buddies.

They’ll wish they had a Gun.

You will definitely recruit a few people by taking them to the range — if they’re not too brainwashed already.

“Thanksgiving week would be a great week, as many families get together and you can bring your favorite lib to the range.”

That won’t work as libtards would start with “y’ know, Thanksgiving is about the eradication of a kind native population by oppressive white invaders etc..” and these pukes will just ruin the dinner. It’s bad enough I have libtard relatives ready to pounce their nonsense at the table..

But I did bring my lefty canadian cousins to the range in AZ years ago and they loved it. The bad part was that I eventually spent $300 on ammo and rentals because they went gung ho when my budget was $75.

There was a time once when I introduced friends to firearms.

Now days I don’t discuss firearms or a number of other topics with anyone except a very select few trusted friends. Even then I’m guarded about what we discuss.

For at least 10 years, I’ve been trying to get one of my son’s female high school buddies to go and shoot a .22. No dice. Just something about some folks ...

Her Dad works a federal government job and her Mom is a nurse. Maybe that has something to do with it.

My Dad had no interest in guns, though he was fire control on a twin 20 mm gun in the Navy in WW2. Still took us shooting. Mom had to teach us to skin and gut stuff we killed.

Very smart.

Same here.

When it is lib friends, does the instruction begin with “OK, run!”?

On the other hand, the first time my Thai sister-in-law visited the U.S., I took her to a buddy’s farm. I had some Winchester 145gr Silvertip JHP .357 Magnum that I got surplus from the West VA State Police when they switched to semi-autos. She blasted through a box of 50 of those in no time flat, in my 6” S&W 686 revolver. It is mean stuff and she absolutely loved it.

I live in San Francisco and for some reason I’ve never had that impression. A good number of co-workers and neighbors shoot, though not often as there is a great shortage of local ranges. Those we have can get very crowded.

The Los Altos Rod and Gun Club range in Los Gatos is worth the drive. It's in a very nice setting, right on Skyline Blvd just beyond the Hwy 9 intersection. Check it out some time, if you haven't already.

Worst case scenario is that you end up training a Libtard how to shoot who later uses such knowledge for some sort of libtard agenda that isn’t so good, or even evil. Use wisdom in who and what, you train and teach.

I don’t have any liberal friends.

My blood pressure is good and I plan on keeping it that way.

It’s the best in the area, for sure. It’s a fair distance though, up the hills from San Jose The best local place is San Leandro, though it’s a bit bare bones.

took a now ex-friend RAT to the range years ago who was actually once in the military, a real know it all

anyway, he took up a stance he must of seen on tv or the movies and before i could get a word out pulled the trigger on my 9mm

blood flew everywhere as the top of his thumb knuckle got pealed off right down to the bone by the slide!

everybody there was laughing like hell but him

one round and it was off to the er... he never went with me again

I took a lib guitar player bandmate back in my woods and let him shoot my Redhawk 44 mag. He’s even more afraid of guns now! Guess I overdid it!

Not friends, but after several days of defending 2A rights on a newsrag letters forum against three liberals, this would be my first choice. It is so hard not to promise mayhem after repeatedly being called "Insane, Crazy, Nuts", etc. You avoid replying in kind, they just keep going, emotion driven creatures.

I don’t think there is a libtard agenda that would be helped by knowing more about guns. The truth shall set you free, etc. From what I have seen, a few shooting lessons gives even liberals a sense of accomplishment in a semi-forbidden subject, which is thrilling and a source of pride especially among them. It’s like having a secret double life of exotic adventure, that one can hint of in conversation.
I have seen these things get to a one-upmanship game about who has shot more, hunted more, or used more “evil” guns. In the end everyone ends up admitting they like guns. This is the key - liberals are all about social consensus, being much more socially anxious than conservatives.
Conservatives of course see shooting as no more odd than golf. To understand the appeal to liberals one has to live among them. This also explains why liberals hate shooting venues - easily available shooting experiences undermine the consensus.
The smarter ones want to keep temptation away from their fellows.
