Windows 10 (migrated there...wish I hadn't)
Rooster

Posted on 10/26/2015 3:58:46 PM PDT by RoosterRedux

I did the Windows 10 download yesterday and, boy, do I wish I had waited awhile.

Many (MANY) of my apps were disabled. MS Office, all my antivirus/anti-malware programs...all of the stuff I use in my everyday work life.

My advise is to ask those who know better than I do...and wait until Windows 10 is developed enough to accept all your programs...Help!

That said, all advice is invited. Please enlighten us re: Windows 10.

There should be a text file on the desktop about app’s removed or disabled. if it was removed reinstall, if it was disabled google how to reenable, or upgrade the app.

I’ve had no problems with 6 PCs upgraded to Win10.

I have seen a few minor glitches here and there, but this has been BY FAR the smoothest Windows upgrade ever.

FULL DISCLOSURE: I have been a Windows beta tester since Win98

I upgraded an eight year old w7 dell laptop and a two year old w8.1 dell laptop. File History got broke on the w8.1 and I had to fiddle with sound settings on the w7. Nothing else was affected. Love w10.

I’m loving win7 ultimate64bit so I’m holding out as long as I possibly can

Same here, I too have Win 7 Ultimate 64, I love it here at home. At work we have updated to Windows 10 on almost all the computers except for one which is still XP. Windows 10 is OK, but I like 7 much better.

You can undo it within a 30 day window. I missed the window and do not want to purchase Windows 7. I’ve learned my lesson - NEVER NEVER ACCEPT A “FREE UPGRADE” from Microsoft! My next purchase will be a new MacBook Pro.

On the up side, at least you’ve made it easier for the US intel agencies to monitor and spy on you. They thank you for your support.

And there it is, folks.

Old applications ALWAYS cause trouble in operating system upgrades. That's true for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, everything.

Old software often relies on obsolete libraries, system calls, etc. Operating systems can't support back-compatibility forever.

Unfortunately, if the application vendor stopped supporting your application, you're S.O.L. and that's all she wrote, unless you want to keep an old copy of the old operating system running in a corner to run that application. But that's only a bet against time, that you will eventually lose.

What’s been happening to me lately is that my WI FI and internet connection disappears and it takes me an hour just to re do this. My wi fi cannot be turned on and is in a state of being locked, I attempt to establish a new internet connection using the same wi fi settings ,etc. Then I turn off my computer for a bit and wouldn’t you know, my connection comes back.

Could be a coincidence, I don’t know.

My roommate borrowed my computer & accidentally downloaded it. I also lost a few of my apps. Still finding everything hard to navigate.

ZDNET has this article,

Registry hack enables continued updates for Windows XP

that enables XP to be supported for updates until 2019. That's how long Windows 7 is supported. You can even run Windows Defender antivirus.

My next purchase will be a new MacBook Pro.

You hear this a lot these days. Do you find it amazing how Microsoft could take a flagship product and make such a mess of it? Win 7 was rock solid and not weird.

Strange.

That's exactly what I said when Vista came out.

Check with HP to see if there isn’t a new driver for Windows 10.

That's exactly what I said when Vista came out.

The disaster that was Vista 1.0 is one of the main reasons that so far I have only upgraded one computer from 7 to 10.

However, with the first Vista service pack, or actually with the beta of the first service pack, the many problems I had been having with Vista all went away. Microsoft first made a godawful mess, then cleaned up after itself.

After service pack 1 is released, or just before the free upgrade offer expires, I'll install 10 on a bunch of computers.

Windows works fine. All this whining about Windows 10 is ridiculous. Sounds like a lot of people lamenting those noisy automobiles because they prefer their horse.

Perhaps you know the solution for this.

The date and time numbers on my Windows 10 screen lock page are funky. I have never seen them before. No other problems with the upgrade.

Got a fix? I haven't been able to find it mentioned anywhere.
