Truer words have never been typed.
Good news is that the Cubs have a great young offense and just need to pick up some Pitchers to be contenders for the next couple of years.
With the exception of Addison Russell, those young players seem entirely baffled by that leather thingie a defensive player wears on his non-throwing hand. The astronomical strikeout numbers and inability to manufacture runs also signal potential danger. I hope my pessimism proves unfounded, but where the Cubs are concerned, pessimism is the safest bet.
But I was raised in Queens and I'm a diehard Mets fan.
I rooted for the White Sox when I lived in Chicago, because I was puzzled by Cubs fans.
They carried themselves toward White Sox fans the way Yankees fans treat Mets fans, yet they didn't have the hardware that Yankees fans use to justify it.
Hah! I thought the guys in the booth were going to cry when the Mets clnched. Zero objectivity except for - frustratingly - Ron Darling.
Next year will be a different story.
Murphy was 83-percent owned in CBS leagues at the end of the year, which was about right considering his steady, but unspectacular production.
He's absolutely raking right now, a sizzling-hot streak of not just career, but historic proportions. However, it's unsustainable over the long haul; he's only hit 62 home runs in 3,354 career at-bats. He seems like a great guy and is certainly a quality major-league player, but I hope somebody in my fantasy league drafts him in the first round next year, because he won't return first-round production.

What was that all about?
2003 was the year the Marlins beat the Cubs in the playoffs because Bartmann, a fan in the stands, reached down and interferd with a catch.
Cost the Cubs game and the series.
(1) The Bartman incident occurred in Game 6. Both the umpire and the fielder Moises Alou said that day that the ball was in the stands and unplayable. Alou has later changed his story, but the film shows that it was a few inches over the stands, higher than Alou could have reached in, and that many fans went for it.
(2) If that unplayable ball had been magically caught, it would have been the second out of the inning, not the third.
(3) The net result of the incident was that Castillo was walked and took a base - not great, but not a particularly dire situation when you're up 3-0.
(4) What put the game out of control was Cabrera hitting an easy ground ball to Gonzalez, who pulled a classic Bill Buckner move and muffed an easy double play - off a ball that bounced directly into his glove.
In other words, if Gonzalez had fielded that ball properly he would have gotten one out to end the inning if there were no Bartman incident and Alou had magically caught the unplayable foul and Castillo hadn't gotten walked.
But, more importantly, if Gonzalez had fielded that ball properly he would have gotten two outs to end the inning in a simple double play even though Alou hadn't actually gotten the foulout and Castillo actually did get the walk.
(5) Gonzalez is the reason they lost the game, not Steve Bartman. And it is the whole teams' fault they lost game 7. Idiot fans bullied a harmless fellow fan who did nothing wrong, rather than actually watching the game and realizing what happened.
You are right, but the concept was that Bartman was the Jinx personified, and that all bad things that happened after were due to the curse.
It is unfair to blame Bartman
My experience has always been that Cubs fans don’t care about the White Sox but Sox fans hate the Cubs with a passion.
Maybe, but Arrieta was a decent yet unspectacular pitcher before he changed his whole approach at age 29 and became a consistently excellent pitcher.
Murphy was a decent yet unspectacular hitter until he changed his approach to batting.
Both are in many ways different players than they used to be.
Murphy may revert to the mean, or he may have finally found what works after years of doing things the wrong way.
Yankees fans don't really care and prefer to scoff and mock at the Mets and their fans when they encounter them, while many Mets fans are obsessed at all times with hating the Yankees.
When the Mets play a game - against any team - there are always Mets fans at Citifield who start chanting "Yankees suck."
The reverse does not happen at Yankee Stadium unless the Mets are actually playing.

I had Dee Gordon this season and he was spectacular in BA and SB,had Correra at SS and Tulowitski at 2B/SS.
Murphy was unowned most of the season in my league, I picked him up for a couple of games when the Marlins were off and know he is good but like you say, this is a real outlier.
I do the autopick, feel like it almost sets up a secondary draft because you can grab guys that are high value but are still available, good test of skill.
