When you have just experienced the heartbreak and humiliation of being jilted at the alter, who but a mother could comfort the young bride. How nice she has a lovely place to go with her loving mother to look after her, and make sure she does not come to harm. How rotten of you to say such a thing.

The tax deduction aspect has already been brought up. If they were dropping $35k on the wedding, I bet they are in the 35% bracket. $10k back is better than $0 back.
And anyway, what kind of friends and relatives could have partied hardy and had a good time knowing her circumstances?

Nice post. Good to see a compassionate person on this thread who’s not piling on this poor jilted woman.

Not sure who she should have taken on the honeymoon. Got a picture of her?

My Mom loved to travel, but for many years while I was a kid, my folks couldn’t afford to go anywhere. So when I grew up and started working, I began taking Mom with me. It was a way to give back for all the sacrifices she and Dad made for my brother and me.
My parents are both gone now, and I’ve been on trips with others, but far and away, my Mom was the best traveling companion. Everywhere we went, we had a blast.
This bride has gone through considerable pain. Why shouldn’t she take a vacation with someone she loves?

Bull, she was getting compassion points and facebook likes.

I don't have too many people in my life who could depart for an extended vacation within a few hours from now.
It was a non-refundable and pre-paid vacation...so I might very well ask my mom, dad, or sister to go with me if put in the same situation, too.

Just more proof that she wasn’t ready for marriage. The both of them for that matter.

Donate the honeymoon to another wedding couple that cannot afford an expensive honeymoon.

Sam,, Most daughters wouldn’t be up to take anyone on a trip after being dumped on the alter.
if it were my daughter that this happened to I would suspect she would go with her mother, if she was able to pull herself together and go at all, and I would feel fortunate she didn’t marry this pos.

Shoulda, woulda, coulda, for them! ;-)
She likely thought "groom bailing on me" was unlikely to happen.
Sounds like they minimized the amount of waste that may have otherwise happened.

What’s the matter with her choice?
To: SamAdams76
The bride-to-be’s mother and father are probably the ones who are out the most financially on the thing. Taking Dad would have been weird. Seems like a reasonable way for the bride-to-be to lick her wounds.
To: SamAdams76
The way I read it is that the bride’s mother is going to use the groom’s ticket since the groom chickened out and cannot use it.
