007 screenwriter Christopher Wood dies

Christopher Wood, screenwriter on two big James Bond films of the 1970s, has died, Roger Moore said on Twitter.

Wood, 79, was brought on to write 1977’s The Spy Who Loved Me by the movie’s director, Lewis Gilbert. He came aboard after various scribes — Richard Maibaum, Stirling Silliphant, Cary Bates and others — had tried their hand at a story for the 10th 007 film.

How sad to hear Bond screenwriter Christopher Wood has died. He wrote two of my best.— Sir Roger Moore (@sirrogermoore) October 17, 2015

1977, Star Wars and The Spy Who Loved Me . A couple of extremely entertaining blockbusters that still look good today. Moore's best, IMHO, along with For Your Eyes Only.

He may have been a fine man but he wrote two of the worst Bond films ever.

The odd thing is the book “Moonraker” by Ian Fleming would have made a great movie just as it was. It was a brilliant idea.

“The Spy Who Loved Me”, probably would have needed a bit of added material but it could not have been as bad as the Wood version.

I’m sure Rog is being polite about “Moonraker.” I haven’t read the novelization, but the film is high camp, to be sure (even with one of France’s arguably best character actors, Michel Lonsdale, playing Drax). FYEO is Moore’s best outing.

The original Spy could not be made into a movie per Ian Fleming direction.

What Cubby wanted Cubby got. But it was great film making.

Don’t know who he is and we all love Bond but the series is hinkey in George Smileys estimation.

Whoa, boy. That’s (MR) even more cartoonish than the finished project.

Moonraker sucked.

The Spy Who Loved Me wasn’t bad. I liked Barbara Bach back then. Yummy.

I agree, Spy Who Loved Me was okay at best, Moonraker was pure crap.
