Maybe Episode 7 should be written by Toni Morrison.
Umm, not buy the damn ticket to your movie?
Note that "The Empire Strikes Back" and "Return of the Jedi" had a black character in a leading role (Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian), and they did extremely well at the box office. It's not that you're black, it's that you seem to have a major chip on your shoulder.
The stormtroopers are all derived from clones, so having one that is black is kind of a problem. He either is a mutant clone or he got placed on the doorstep of the stormtrooper academy as a baby.
Faggotry (the new diversity) coming to a Star Wars near you.
I was kidding someone a couple years ago about this. I’m a big Star Wars fan too. The agenda marches forward.
That would kind of be cool. That kind of happened to Luke before the first one.
So a black version would be "Jango Unleashed."
;^)
Well that does explain some things.
The guy’s an ass. The carping about a black actor is because the stormtroopers were CLONES of a non-black character.
It’s not about the color. It’s the deviation from the history.
Did anyone ever say the original clones were immortal? Episode 6 happens generations after the clone army.
I agree the guy is an ass, but how do you know he’s a Stormtrooper? Luke and Han wore Stormtrooper armor and weren’t really... This is a 5 sec snip of a movie that I bet will show him having made a getaway by pretending to be a ST.
Once the war against the Jedi was won the job of Troopers changed. They were no longer needed to be an elite force. they now needed them to be a standing army and symbol of the Empire. Which means they needed a LOT more of them. first they added new clone lines. Then they actually started hiring people. And it’s probably way cheaper, the Clones spent a lot of time in training, plus of course they had to be made, recruiting old style “out sources” all that breeding and raising to their parents.
You would be assured of their loyalty, medical history, their armor and weapons would all be interchangeable.
That is the beauty of replaceable parts and why it is used in just about every kind of manufacturing now days.
Or he’s 2 generations AFTER Troopers stopped being all derived from one clone source.
It does make a difference. Here’s why.
The Empire was supposed to be something of an allegory for the Nazis. IOW racist and supremecist. The Stormtroopers were supposed to evoke Aryanism and the perfect male human form. Hence Leia’s “you look short for a Stormtrooper” comment to Luke in Ep.4.
Having Black Stormtroopers makes as much sense as having Black Germans/Nazis in various WWII movies. Or having Black Klan members.
Thats the perspective Star Wars purists are coming from, and given that the Empire (now “First Order) was evil incarnate, it’s actually the diametric opposite of racism.
I was judging from the brief description in the article.
To be honest correct me if I am wrong but I believe some time after the clone wars ended the jango line of clones ended and they used new clones and open enlistments, I guess thats why stormstroopers are inferior to the clone troopers of the old republic.
The only people complaining are probably canon purists who feel all storm troopers were suppose to be clones of the same dude, the vaguely latin looking dude in the Episode 2.
Topically related: when I first heard about this fan outrage, I didn't hear many details concerning it (and wasn't interested enough to learn more about it). My first guess was the image of Social Justice Warriors upset that we now have a Villainous Black Stormtrooper.
My second guess was the idea, mentioned elsewhere in this thread, that some people assumed that every stormtrooper had to be a clone. A little searching finds examples, at least as quoted in magazine articles.
As long as you kept the large expensive clone factory running.
As I've said, nobody knows that all Stormtroopers ever are clones. But probably more significant here, nobody knows this actor is actually playing a Stormtrooper instead of some guy who puts on the outfit during part of the movie.
