Dang, way to miss the point, John!
Well...I haven’t read your mail. Maybe there are people who have a problem with black characters in Star Wars.
Not me. Mace Windu and Lando Calrissian added wonderfully inimitable parts to the whole.
My problem (such a “first world problem”!) is that as far as I know, all stormtroopers are clones of Jango Fett (played by a Maori).
Perhaps the story will explain that other warriors were cloned in later generations of stormtroopers. Or that they dropped the clone idea and started open enlistments.
Anyway, that’s the point. Not that you’re black, but that you are a stormtrooper. It doesn’t fit the known narrative.
Oh well....you can’t be all as awesome as Sam or Billy Dee :)
he is working overtime to kill off interest in the movie.
Is this movie PC or something? PC is the dark side...
No, but his voice was.
“I’m in the movie; what are you going to do about it?”
Not go to a gun free zone to patronize it?
WHAT lando was black? when did that happen!!!!(/sarcasm)
Maybe the clone machine wasn’t washed properly between uses?
Maybe he’ll play the role of R2DTooLegit2Quit
No but the actor who was his voice was/is. James Earl Jones
A black stormtrooper does not make sense in this context anymore then a red head or a Japanese one would.
This has nothing to do with race but with continuity of the story line.
It would be like having Gandolph be played by a Orc, Rudolph be played by a giraffe or Frosty by a tree. The break jars you and ruins suspension of disbelief that is necessary to enjoy the story.
Excellent point. They were clones.
E bonics as spoken by the Kingfish.....

Seriously, there are racist Star Wars fans? Really? Maybe in a galaxy far far away.
I really doubt that there are a significant number of star wars fans that are so racist they would complain about seeing a black actor when there have already been a fair number of black actors featured prominently in the franchise. the only thing that makes sense to me would be if somebody complained that storm troopers are supposed to be clones and therefore all of them need to always be played by Temuera Morrison. Seems like a hard goal to hit but hey, they are supposed to be clones.
Excellent point. No different than casting Vito Corleone as an Asian man in the Godfather II movie.
I think this is some sort of ginned up outrage. I can't conceive of very many people giving two sh*ts about whether a black guy is a storm trooper or not.
I've seen the teaser. I always assumed the guy was one of the heroes of the story that ended up putting on some Storm Trooper armor for reasons of disguise or something.
Are there really people out there that want to make this into a racial thing? Do they not have better things to worry about in their lives?
Which is why they die so easily, by the way.
Vader’s voice was that of James Earl Jones (the man who could make a reading of a phone directory sound interesting) so yes, in that sense Darth was black.
But I doubt even in the original they hire actual clones to play all the storm troopers. No one really cares what’s underneath the armor, right?
Hmmm, that may have made the movie much more interesting.
