Some Roseburg residents’ message to Obama: “Don’t bother” visiting us

“We do not want him to come” In an unscientific sampling of Roseburg area residents on Tuesday, more sided with Roberts’ views than with Foley’s.

Immediately after Thursday’s shooting, Obama repeated a call for more gun control. That did not sit well with some Roseburg area residents.

“We do not want him to come, and the veterans don’t want him to come,” asserted Patti Sciapiti, who said that her husband is involved with the American Legion in Roseburg.

“I don’t want him here because I don’t think it was proper for him to talk about gun control when the tragedy was just happening,” Sciapiti said from the parking lot at Mercy Medical Center. “He politicized it; he even said he politicized it. That’s just not right. ... He’s not welcome.”

One man who said he is a military veteran and provided only his first name, Dave, said he doesn’t plan to try to see Obama on the visit, calling him “a jerk.”

This is a "Red Guard" article, which means the headline should actually read "Most" and not "Some". I have not been able to find the news release agreed to by the sheriff, county commissioners, and city mayor telling Obama he is not welcome and why.

I wonder how long this reporter had to search to find Lula from Columbia South America who would agree Obama should come.

I was wrong in stating the Mayor was opposed to his visit. The paragraph from the interview was, “We’ve talked to dozens upon dozens of citizens, some family members of the victims, our elected officials,” Jaques recently told Bill O’Reilly on his show “The O’Reilly Factor.” “Our Douglas County commissioners, along with our Douglas County-elected sheriff, who is very popular, and our chief of police all came to a consensus language about him not being welcome here for political grandstanding”.

The Guard reporter must have been crying that they don’t love his messiah. Perhaps he can walk across the Umpqua for us??

Can you blame them? They know he doesn’t give a damn about Roseburg.
He just wants to mine their pain in order to mau mau for gun confiscation.

I thought it was reported on Hannity last night that the mayor said he would welcome the visit....maybe I was too tired to hear it right.

No, you heard it right. I saw it reported in an Oregonian article that those folks welcome him.

I would bet they even had “boots on the ground” in advance of his visit. Standing on principle won't get you reelected to public office or allow you to advance in a government bureaucracy. Been there, done that. In retrospect I still wouldn't consider my actions juvenile.
