Border Fence - India's border fence at night
NDTV ^ | Oct 05, 2015 | Subuhi Parvez

NASA posted a photo of the border between India and Pakistan as seen from outer space on Facebook on Sunday. The photo was taken by an astronaut on the International Space Station and shows the familiar outline of the north-western segment of India picked out in glowing lights.

The astronaut who took the photo was "looking north across Pakistan's Indus River valley." The thread of orange that separates the two countries is lit by security lights that glow orange. The brightest spot visible is Karachi which faces the Arabian Sea. The Indus Valley is also dotted with lights.

This is one of the few international boundaries visible after dark. The Facebook post has been liked almost 50,000 times and has nearly 9,000 shares.

According to Nasa, "More than two millennia ago, Alexander the Great entered the Indus plains in 327 BCE from the northwest. He then spent many months leading his army and navy down the length of the Indus valley shown in this view. From near Karachi, he then began the desert march back to Mesopotamia (modern Iraq). By contrast, it takes the space station just three minutes to travel this distance".

The photo was taken on September 23 with a Nikon D4 digital camera using a 28 millimetre lens.

A similar picture was shared by NASA in 2011, which shows the border zone as seen southeast from the Himalayas.

That’s the whole point. How come India can put up a fence, light it up, patrol it...but we can’t?!? Their terrain is all the way from the Himalays to the deserts of Rajhistan. Makes no sense!

I think India is a great country. Having a billion people is a challenge, so not everything is wonderful, but India is an important, successful country.

Now, having said nice things about India, I have to also say how deeply embarrassing it is to find that India seems to surpass the USA is some basic areas. We really do seem to be a third world country these days.

Intereseting. There are LOTS of border fences that seem to work pretty well. Simply a matter of resolve.

For example, Saudi’s build fence:

It's not only long and lighted - but it's also seriously fenced and patrol.

It’s not a matter of being able to. It’s a matter of *wanting* to.

The uniparty donor base will not permit serious immigration enforcement.

How many times do we hear the open-borders Washington politicians call for US troops to be sent to Iraq or some other 3rd world cesspool?

Let them send those troop to our border to stop the invasion of our country!

The fence was built with the help of the Israelis. I hear that there are Mossad operatives all over Kashmir working with RAW agents.

Yeah, well, stupid. Also a matter of not wanting to stop the invasion. If they had listening devices only as good as what we used for trail monitoring in Vietnam they would not have gotten close enough to the fence to put the beams up before calymores were set off or land mines were triggered.

Ah.. India has 400 million people who use the ground as a toilet every day for their entire lives, so let’s not sing their virtues too much. They miss the boat on basic sanitation and clean water, so they have some work to do bringing a big part of their country out of the third world.
