In an Oregon gun shop, President Obama's message does not sit well

ROSEBURG, Ore. (Reuters) - The first thing customers entering the Roseburg Gun Shop see is a life-sized cardboard cutout of President Barack Obama with a Middle Eastern scarf around his head and a badge pinned to his chest that reads: "Gun salesman of the year."

The customers and sales staff in this store, located 10 miles (16 km) from Umpqua Community College, where a gunman killed nine people and injured nine others on Thursday, said they were horrified by the shootings. But they were not buying the president’s argument that guns were the problem.

Regardless of what you think of blue states, we have pockets of patriotism here and there but are governed by morons.

At my local gun range, the most popular target is of a likeness of "Achmed" in full terrorist gear who has a remarkable resemblance to America's top gun salesman.

I am not a proponent of disarming any population. However, when the UK, Australia and Europe were disarmed they were largely homogeneous, peaceful and harmonious places. Ofcourse, that no longer holds true but it did at one time.

We live in a really violent and tribal society and it's only getting worse. Leaving us a sitting ducks would be criminal.

We’re a divided society, but not nearly as violent & tribal as other places on Earth. Too many potential victims packing. If the odds of dying while committing a violent crime are even money, that tends to dissuade all but the real psychos.

And in Aussieland, gun crime went up (though firearm suicides went down, but that was already part of a trend). In the UK, which was more draconian in their collection efforts, gun crime all went down, but overall crime went up.
