Forecast predicts Hurricane Joaquin will charge up Chesapeake Bay
Baltimore Sun ^ | 9/30/15 | Scott Dance

The center of Hurricane Joaquin could be churning up the Chesapeake Bay come Monday morning, bringing flooding rains and storm surge with it.

The storm — which was upgraded from a tropical storm to a hurricane Wednesday morning — is still about 200 miles east of the Bahamas, but is expected to strengthen and shift northward soon, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Joaquin is expected to make a right turn and speed up the Eastern Seaboard starting Friday, before crossing the Outer Banks of North Carolina on Sunday and heading up the Chesapeake on Monday.

While forecasts are tenuous several days out, a significant impact to Maryland is appearing increasingly likely. At least one key forecasting model continues to predict the storm will stay far from shore, though.

Yes I know, that is why I am praying for you.
You must have me confused with another poster.

Basements can flood wherever you are, since they are partially underground.

Understood. We have never had that problem through several hurricanes and other storms. We have lived in this house since 1989 and the only water in our basement has been water resulting from plumbing leaks and once from the failure of our hot water heater.

I’ve been lucky enough to have no real basement flooding, either, but if the power goes out for long enough during an event like this, with the sump and grinder pumps not working, that could change.

If all else fails there's always a garden hose you could use as a siphon.

It's also a promised thing, in every eternal soul spiritual belief theory, in all the the recorded history of mankind, that there WILL be a final day of judgment for every individual soul.

I'm ready.

NY ping.

Even though all the focus is on where this will make landfall, the precipitation shield will extend quite a ways out, and. PA and NY lay beyond that.

I remember the hurricane that caused all that flooding in Corning, NY.

I also have kids living closer to the Atlantic coast than we are and they’re likely to see quite a bit of action from this storm.

They will have to go back home and face their angry constituents for possibly several days, though ;)

Thank link I posted refreshes itself with new data from NOAA every hour. Since I posted it, the track to farther to the east, and away from the Chesapeake, but brushing NC as a hurricane and hitting southern Jersey as a hurricane or tropical storm.

Joaquin: 1. Origin: Hebrew meaning: God will establish. 2. Origin: Polish meaning: The Lord exalts.

Joaquin seems to have eerily intensified much like Katrina did shortly after a legislative vote against Israel.

Calm down, folks, it's looking more and more like it's going out to sea.

It’s now a Cat 4. Is it wrong to hope it takes out the white house and a paint store and piles the rubble in a rainbow colored heap?

Besides Trump can build a new one.

Tom Terry with WFTV out of Orlando said at 11:00 that the hurricane is taking a more easterly track and moving further away from the eastern coastline and that the EGRR model is more right taking this out to sea. He said the US model (GFS) has been horrible predicting the path. There is a big low front coming down into Florida which “saves our bacon” and although it brings rain to the east coast, the hurricane is moving further away from the coast line and the most anyone will get is rough waves.
