Is it just me or is it a little odd celebrating the independence of a country you have left, and probably left with good reason, in the country you have emigrated to? Even if one is just visiting it seems odd. I would never be so presumptuous as to celebrate July 4 openly in a foreign country.
Our local paper is filled with as much info about Mexican Independence Day as for July 4. There are numerous events.
Some small recognition for a foreign event, maybe, but this thing along with the Day of the Dead is blown way out of proportion. Napa has a nice little event for Bastille Day, which seems tasteful and appropriate in size and demeanor.
No one really celebrates Constitution Day or Magna Carta Day which have done more to shape the world than many other events.
I’ve seen it too. Mexican kids are on their bicycles displaying the Mexican flag, and you have the adults in their trucks and hydraulic cars doing the same. It’s sickening.
I don’t so much mind them liking the country they came from but what I can’t stand is their hatred of the country they invaded and which is typically supporting you with welfare.
Not just their hatred for the country they came to but the moronic desire to make it just like the place you fled.
Montana and Oregon have bumper stickers saying “Don’t Californicate Our State”. They move away from a place for a reason and then make it like the place they left.
Yep. And soon enough Europe will be just another part of the Middle East.
We did celebrate the 4th overseas usually by inviting our hosts to a traditional picnic.
Is this the day they all go back to mexico? The one day they aren’t dependent on us?
All immigrants bring some of their culture with them.
If the immigration laws were strictly enforced, ICE would be there rounding up illegal aliens. Then there would not be any celebrations.
In the late 80s I worked a major building project with about fifty other Americans and perhaps two hundred U.K. citizens in England.
When American Independence Day rolled around, we Americans threw a right and proper 4th of July celebration for everyone on the crew. The Brits loved it, and we all ribbed each other over the significance of the day, while enjoying barbeque and beers.
Little different from immigrants who insist upon celebrating their former country after having emigrated to a new country.
Do you think they are CELEBRATING Independence From Mexico Day? /s
Which many Anchor Babies think is their Independence Day.
Whoever started the illegal immigration here did a really good job and they are probably the same people who orchestrated the flow to europe. So who is going to profit from this the most?
Are the countries being invaded mostly republics or democracies? hmmm. Is China or Russia or India being invaded? Why not?
I disagree, there would be many celebrations, just not by Mexicans.
But, until fairly recently they weren't officially authorized to shove it up my nose while demanding that I finance it.
