People in San Francisco, Berkeley and Pacifica may hear a stir in the air this week as a helicopter measuring radiation is scheduled to fly over the cities this week.
With this "Aerial Radiological Survey," the helicopter is helping the Department of Homeland Security, Department of Energy and Lawrence Berkeley National Lab to conduct research to help the federal government better detect nuclear and radiological material.
According to a memo sent to Berkeley's mayor and city council, the aircraft was scheduled to fly in San Francisco on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, Berkeley on Wednesday and Pacifica on Thursday. Berkeleyside noted that similar tests were conducted in August 2012.
They need to fly over Hanoi Boi Kerry’s house.
Not much info given in the article. This raises more questions such as where else will this be happening and why?
Expect the City Council’s of SF and Berkeley to make some idiotic pronouncement soon.
I wish theyd out geiger counters by the tuna section in the store.
With the thousands of aircraft in the skies over the Bay Area, who would even notice one more?
Ping
Guess they want to measure the spread and intensity of the Fukishima debris
Reminds me of the âSnoopysâ In VN...the ammonia detecting and infer-red detecting helicopters...We killed a lot of water-buffaloes..but we seemed to get shot up alot when we found the real thing....Just sayin....
“Expect the City Councils of SF and Berkeley to make some idiotic pronouncement soon”.
A noise or pollution complaint against the helicopter.
Is it a test or is there a direct threat?
You can bet the Feds have some intel, which they won’t share with the locals.

It flew over my house several times yesterday, loud and annoying. At first I thought it was a Coast Guard helo which we see a lot of of, but then when I looked out it clearly was not.
That’s a great fluking spot!
