Vanity: Help! Google Chrome takes 10 minutes to open on Windows 10.
Self ^ | 9/1/15 | Self

Posted on 09/01/2015 11:15:44 AM PDT by SilvieWaldorfMD

Every morning, I fire up my home computer (downloaded Windows 10 last week) and when I go to my Google Chrome icon, it takes me exactly 10 minutes for the Google main page to pop up on my screen. I like Google Chrome because I have GooglePlus and GMail, but it seems that Windows 10 is not supporting it because they want users to jump to Microsoft Edge (their browser) instead.

What can I do to correct this? Should I uninstall and then install Google Chrome again? This delay is very frustrating.

I think Chrome is poorly written with the way it opens threads (at least the version I have). It may not like Windows 10 at all.

Ubuntu with Oracle VM to run a Windows window where you can install your old Win s/w. Start with a fresh HD.

1. Go to: https://www.debian.org/

2. Click “Download Debain 8.1” (http://cdimage.debian.org/debian-cd/8.1.0/multi-arch/iso-cd/debian-8.1.0-amd64-i386-netinst.iso)

3. Burn the ISO to a disk.

4. Reboot computer.

5. Should be good in 30 minutes or less.

;-)

Google Chrome

Hmm. I think I see part of your problem here.

takes 10 minutes to open on Windows 10.

And here's the other part.

Thackney’s post may be the best solution.

I have been running chrome on my win10 and have had no problems at all. How much memory do you have installed?

Where do you think that “10” in the name comes from, anyway?

It takes 5 min for them to negotiate which will steal your data first, then 5 min to do it.

http://www.extremetech.com/computing/191279-why-is-it-called-windows-10-not-windows-9

There’s also the fact that the name of each Windows release doesn’t actually match the real version number. For example, Windows 8.1 is actually version 6.3 of Windows. Windows 10 is version 6.4. The last time the release name actually matched the version number was the enterprise-focused Windows NT 4.0, which was released back in 1996. Windows 2000, which was called NT 5.0 during development, was actually version 5.0. Windows XP was version 5.1. Windows Vista was 6.0, Windows 7 was 6.1, Windows 8 was 6.2, and Windows 8.1 is version 6.3....

I appreciate you trying to help, but this address—http://www.chromestory.com—is NOT Google’s site.

Downloading and running anything from Google should begin with http://www.ggogle.com—or at least have google.com in the root of the url.

An IMPORTANT way to avoid malware is only download and run software from a url that has as its root the name of the provider of the software you intend to run.

I worked with a field engineer today to try and get a tunnel working to a customer’s systems in the Netherlands. We spent about 15 minutes trying to get it to work using Windows7 and several ssh applications. After much frustration, we switched to using my Mac Book....we connected using just two commands...DONE!
