RACCOONS ATTACK COUPLE, DOG IN SAN FRANCISCO
ABC7 ^ | 8/21

Posted on 08/30/2015 10:28:31 AM PDT by nickcarraway

In San Francisco's Richmond District, a couple was attacked they say by a pack of raccoons and if it weren't for a neighbor who came to their rescue, they believe they might have been seriously injured.

Many neighbors in the area say they don't like going out after 11 p.m., not because they worry about getting mugged, but because they worry about a confrontation with raccoons.

Patty Upsavs says she and her husband went out Monday night to let their dog get one last walk and that's when a raccoon pounced.

"So I started swinging the dog around trying to get it off," Upsavs said.

Then a pack of raccoons attacked.

"And then I got another one on my other leg. And so at this point, I'm in the middle of the street and I look up to see, 'Where is my husband? How come he's not helping?' And I look and he's throwing... raccoons are just jumping on him," Upsavs said.

Hope they got the shots. Sound rabid.

Agreed. Major carrier of rabies around here.

Although we haven't had the problems with packs of coons that some other areas have.

Smart raccoons.

They don’t attack homeless people—only people of means in good neighborhoods.

I would have loved to see a video of the Oriental neighbor running down the street screaming and swinging a golf club.

When they are busy slurping down that “Neat round spaghetti you can eat with a spoon”, you shiv ‘em with an ice pick.

Ice pick would be a shank, not a shiv. Where I'm from, Shanks are metal, Shivs are non-metallic.

If you want to use a shiv, start rubbing the handle of your toothbrush or a disposable razor on concrete pavement.

Do you really want to start the great shiv/shank debate?

We need to be precise in our vocabulary. And ready when the government sends us to the camps.

“So I started swinging the dog around trying to get it off,”

That is actually quite common in the rainbow city by the bay.

Raccoons can be vicious and attack with incredible speed if they are provoked or feel threatened. They'll take on just about anything. As a general rule, never, ever let a house dog fight a raccoon, because they'll very like lose:

Hillbillies let dog fight a trapped raccoon

Sometimes a fighting dog will kill a raccoon, but a big raccoon against a house pet is not a good matchup.

That shoes how our of control this group of raccoons is. They don’t even use the proper terminology.

thats one way. On the farm we live trapped them and then drown them in the pond. Hateful predators/ Got into the chicken coop (which took my hubby and me a half hour to figure out how it got in) Killed 1/2 the chickens and carried the dead ones up into the low ceiling, thought it was coming back. Had to mercy kill one macerated chicken and fixed a broken leg on one of the guineas...they also got into a turkey house by eating a hole in the roof, killed and ate the babies chicks and left through the same hole...they even figured out how to get the bait from the live trap and not get caught.....An animal truly worthy of Hate...drowning is fast, they have little lungs and the whole trap with a rope tied to it went into the pond....I have about 8n different stories about why they should be elimated They kill by decapitating.

And, by the way, never refer to them as “coons,” as that would be racist.

Coons can spread a lot of diseases:

Rabies
Raccoon roundworm
Salmonella
Leptospirosis

This last one is spread by droppings and urine. Dead coons picked up off the road along the coast in Calif tested 95% positive for this disease.
