TV series about Russian occupation of Norway sparks furor

A new Norwegian TV series in which Russia occupies the Nordic country and takes control of its oil fields has been described by Russia's Foreign Ministry as being "in the worst traditions of the Cold War" and representing a "non-existent threat from the east." The series is to be launched by the largest Norwegian independent television channel TV2, the local media outlet LO News reports. Events in the TV show evolve around the invasion of Norway by the Russian army – backed by the European Union – after environmental radicals come to power in the Scandinavian country and stop its oil industry. According to the script, Russia occupies the country and subsequently seizes its oil fields.

After World War II, Russian submarines violated Norwegian and Danish territorial waters in a deliberate campaign of intimidation. The result was the organization of NATO, at the instigation of Norway and Denmark. If the Ukraine, Georgia, and Estonia are any guide, they have reason to be nervous.

With the current administration in Washington, Norway, the Baltics, and Canada have much to be nervous about.
