How do we know her cornea wasn’t detached before she came to the restaurant? Just because she says so? Not sayin’ she’s lying, but she’s lying.

“Well, if you can reap Millions from spilling hot coffee in your lap, it’s certainly worth a try.”

True, but from what I read, she’s not trying to reap millions. She is looking for 25,000 to cover her medical costs. From the sounds of her injuries she could certainly sue for more and probably win.

I’ve been to the Lambert’s Cafe in Gulf Shores AL. It was a ton of fun but I can see how someone could get hurt. In Alabama they hire kids from the local high school baseball teams. These rolls come out piping hot and you put your hand in the air and the rolls start flying. They don’t stop throwing them til you catch one haha.

That being said, they also had servers who handed out rolls for those whom didn’t want to participate. They only threw a roll to you if your hand was up. If her hand was up she should have been ready for it.

Probably heard about the settlement with the Royals (they were sued for pretty much the same injuries with their mascot was throwing hotdogs into the stands). And now, of course, they no longer do so.

No she didn’t, the lid was not put on and it spilled when they handed it to her from the drive through window.

Yes, she did. She was a passenger, riding with a relative, they pulled away from the drive-through, and parked in a parking spot. She pulled the lid off (pulling toward herself) to doctor the coffee while she was holding it in her lap. It was 100% her fault.

Wrong:

On February 27, 1992, Stella Liebeck, a 79-year-old woman from Albuquerque, New Mexico, ordered a 49-cent cup of coffee from the drive-through window of a local McDonald's restaurant located at 5001 Gibson Boulevard Southeast. Liebeck was in the passenger's seat of her grandson's 1989 Ford Probe, which did not have cup holders, and her grandson Chris parked the car so that Liebeck could add cream and sugar to her coffee. Liebeck placed the coffee cup between her knees and pulled the far side of the lid toward her to remove it. In the process, she spilled the entire cup of coffee on her lap.[9] Liebeck was wearing cotton sweatpants; they absorbed the coffee and held it against her skin, scalding her thighs, buttocks, and groin.[10]

They throw big fish in Seattle’s Pike Market. Imagine getting one of those in the kisser.

The food must taste like crap if they have to use a stupid gimmick like throwing food to bring people in.

You got that right.

Yes, but MickyDs deliberately jacked up the temperature into the hazardously hot zone to keep people from taking advantage of the free refills as it would take too long to cool the first cup to drinkable temperature.

Wrong. Industry standards, then, and now, are to brew between 195 and 205 degrees F. Quit trying to blame the company. Hot coffee is hot, most folks buy it from the drive through to drink at work or home, not to immediately consume.

Taking the lid off the coffee if you're sitting at the table allows the coffee to cool quite rapidly to drinking temperature. Also, within the testimony of that case, it was shown that over the course of 11 years (1982 - 1992), McDonald's had only received about 700 complaints about coffee being too hot. Hell, I bet that particular restaurant sold 700 cups of coffee in less than a week, let alone all restaurants over 11 years combined.

They received far more complaints about cold coffee if they served the coffee at a lower temperature.

Not only that but I had commented before on how ridiculous it was that someone would sue for dumping hot coffee on themselves. Then I googled the pictures....OMG, it was horrible. The woman involved had every reason to sue. Coffee should never be served that hot.

When she put the hot cup of coffee, something lots of people LOVED about McD’s coffee, between her legs.

. Coffee should never be served that hot.

And it never should be placed between your legs.

It could also be a malfunctioning ztron recombiner flow through switch or an over limit decelerator pregauzer sensor.

I wonder if I can sue Mr. Razzman, my fourth grade teacher in Cayuga Heights, NY, who occasionally beaned me with pieces of chalk thrown from the other side of the room. You didn’t fool around much in Mr. Razzman’s class. Not if you wanted survive, that is.

Maybe the statute of limitations has run out after 55 years.
