I’m not a fanboy but I’ve been really impressed so far with how problem free Windows 10 has been.

ALL of my applications simply worked.

The only problem I’ve seen is with Adobe Flash (in browser), and I really don’t think it’s fair to blame Microsoft for that.

I don’t use cortana or edge though.

I just did it on 8.1. Looks like that makes a lot of stuff easier to find. I didn’t know about that. Thanks

10 installed on my Dell 2-in-1 with no problems. With my Lenovo Thinkpad, it crashed...and crashed...and crashed. I’ve spent the last week fixing each issue and now it seems to be stable, but it was sure a pain in the rectal area for a while. Just be prepared for what might happen.

"...Windows 10 is a potentially great upgrade – that’s not quite great yet. The new Microsoft operating system is an essential redesign. That alone makes it worth the upgrade..."

LOL, they say that EVERY time...but the REAL question is...

Is it snappier?

Selecting “File Explorer” crashes, but the old Right-Click->Start->File Explorer works just fine.

Other than that, works a treat. Much faster than 7 or 8.

In order to download Windows 10 you need the Windows 10 upgrade app that places a little windows logo on the bottom right corner of your screen. I’m running Windows 8.1 and do not have this logo on my screen. My searches on how to get the Windows 10 upgrade app have only turned up confusing articles and threads. Does anyone know how I can get the Windows 10 upgrade app so I can make a reservation to get Windows 10?

Thank you for your response but there is no link on that page that says “upgrade this computer.”

Thank you very much, I’ve been to that page before and find it almost impossible to understand. I think that perhaps I need to get someone a little more computer savy than me to help me out.

The link I provided gives you an application to download and run.

When you do so, you’ll immediately see the option i mentioned.

Thanks, while I’m pretty good at working with software I’m not all that good at computer settings and parameters.

Are you using full Outlook (from Office) or Outlook Express delivered with your original OS? If it is full Outlook, which version of Office?

I have done an upgrade from Windows 7 on a 4 year o
D laptop, and W8.1 on a year Old
Aptop without any issues. Now it’s time!e to do my other 5 pc’s and laptops.

I upgraded an old 2009 1.3ghz c2d laptop with ssd as testbed. Upgrade win7 to 10 using the media creation tool was smooth as silk. This lappy was so sluggish on win7, but is now fairly close to my 2013 i7 rmbp. I’ve noticed a few bugs, mostly force closures of system apps.

I’m running classic shell, Firefox 39 and a few other items to test stability. So far, very nice, though I’ll wait awhile to upgrade my other pc’s.

I did the 10 up date last night and basically had no problems with it trying to make my old AMD chip into a fast gamer pc instead of an old HP windows 7 Pavillion. I aborted that and closed out for the night, after making Chrome my browser on advice from our family II, who hates all the zillion forms of it.

This morning it notified me, that my Norton was not compatible w/10.

I had to UN plug the computer, do the old reboot to get Norton installed and to use Norton’s Safe search to use Chrome as my browser. I had to reboot my Chrome and I lost my preferred quick go to tabs.

My old pc with 10 and my Chrome browser is running faster than ever and very reliable. Avoiding 10’s search bs, with Chrome is quick/simple.

My Hp deskjet 2524 connected to my old PC is still working. My Envy 4502, is not USBed to the old PC, and it is working great with Google Cloud print with my new Acer Chromebook, Acer tab and Android phones.

The conversion erased two of my Kindle books via the cloud. They are still on my Acer Chromebook and tablet.

So far W10 with the exception of the struggles w/Norton has been uneventful compared to last MS bs abortions posing as a new thing. I was hoping that it would destroy my old PC. Then, I could buy the Hp Stream w/10 to work along with a new Acer Chrome Desk Set handling what I do w/MS.

Now, I have to wait for my old PC to die on its own.

This morning, it notied

When I did an upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows I did get this error opening most anything.

“This app can’t open, your trial period for this app has expired”

Right click on the Start button then click on Run then type:
SFC /SCANNOW

This fixed the issues.

When I did a clean install (formatted hard drive during install) I had no errors and everything opened normal and the text looked sharper.

In the Device Manager I do have 2 issues listed under Other Devices called “Base System Device” After some searching it turns out it was the Broadcom Card Reader Chip BCM57785X. I had my Gateway cds and the driver was on it. Windows itself was unable to locate when I tried to update the driver. I ran the setup from the cd and now I have no issues in the Device Manager.

Once I finish installing all my programs I will use both Windows Backup program and EaseUS Todo Backup Home backup to create an image file so I can quickly reinstall if needed. Then I will use EaseUS to do a 2nd image with incremental updates of files. You can specify for how long to keep the extra updates, say 1 month then delete the older versions so your hard drive does not fill up.

I have a blu-ray player drive and Windows 10 did not have the software. My gateway cd has CyberLink PowerDVD 10.
When opened for the first time it told me I had to update it. It tried to opened John Wayne’s “The Searchers” but could not. It said “Not responding pilgrim”.....

I would need PowerDVD 15 and the cost is $85. Looking for cheaper alternatives.
DVD’s play in VLC. Blu-ray do not.

So it goes with chat support. Four days dealing with those who knew less than I did. Funny though watching the antics of the mouse cursor while in remote connection. I managed to dump Win 10 and return to 8.1. No benefit in making the change. The boot time was increased from the factory 8.1 I had.

Goodbye MS.

So do I along with two Win 8.1 machines. No reason to change. I tried it and there was no benefit. I dealt with online chat techs for four days to no avail. My advice... stay where you are.
