Donald Trump says of critics, 'I will say what I want to say'

WASHINGTON - Once again, Donald Trump isn't backing down from comments that have inflamed the Republican presidential race.

At an Iowa GOP forum Saturday, Trump dismissed Arizona Sen. John McCain's reputation as a war hero, saying McCain was merely captured in Vietnam and "I like people who weren't captured."

That's caused an uproar. But Trump isn't repentant.

No I didnt.

But if this guy wants to use his seat to “shoot” at me by voting for liberty-killing laws, and aide people like Obama, then I dont owe him jack. Not a thank-you, not a defense from criticism, not a handshake.

And for that, I couldn’t care less what happened to him, because he sure as hell doesn’t care about any of us. Just remember that the next time he calls you a kook.

The nice thing about Trump is that he doesn't have to check with his handlers to see if he might offend some fat cat donor before he states his position. You know immediately where he stands on an issue.

It don’t matter to me what you think of him politically...I don’t care for his politics either, but to wish an American shot in a war zone just SUCKS!!!!!

Well you will have to take that up with “hero” McCain then.

He asked me to not care multiple times. And I finally obliged.

After Trump’s truthful comments I don’t see Palin ever backing him. She’ll always actively support McCain.

While I don’t think Trump is serious in any way, the media is looking for their 1st scalp, to boost ratings and whittle down the stronger contenders.

I have no doubt they would resort to playing clips of Chris Rock, Al Franken and others, who have said the same thing.

They need eyeballs on all three screens and slanting what someone said is the only way to get there.

Bob Dole was a hero too but, a complete and total Plick who I never want to hear from again but, I’m sure “K” street pays him pretty good money...

Mcain has been a lousy Senator and has been working against the interests of me and my family. I hope Arizona finally throws the bum out.

Trump despite all his warts is getting the American people’s attention because he is telling the truth about many things that the establishment want kept quiet.

The simple fact is McCain would not have damaged this country if he wasn’t around to do it. I think that’s what people mean when they say they wish he had died in Viet Nam.
I’m sure there were lots of patriots who said “I wish Benedict Arnold had been killed in his first battle.”

I’m a vet from that era and had friends die on the field of battle and one in a jeep wreck. Personally I’m not offended by anything said about McCain the traitor.

In this day and age if you finish basic training and get your “boot camp” picture taken, you’re a hero.

I know a guy who was in just long enough to get his picture taken of him in uniform. You know what I’m talking about. His wife loves to post that picture and talk about his service. I always say “He wasn’t in long enough to get two pictures taken.”

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doug_Hegdahl

This guy was a POW and was a true hero. He caused more damage to the Vietnamese army that many of the pilots.

“During his prison stay, Hegdahl sabotaged five trucks by putting small amounts of dirt in their gas tanks. After he was through with them, each of the vehicles had to be towed from the compound.”

Not such a small chance today as it was in past elections because of a huge relatively unreported change in voter affiliations:

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/gop/3313652/posts?page=155#155

> “What if CRUZ/TRUMP jump on a third party ticket!!!!!!”

They can do it and win. Many think it will be Perot deja-vu all over again; they would be wrong.

Since 1992 the electorate has changed and since 2012 there has been a seldom reported sea change in voter registration affiliations.

In 2008, 24% of the electorate identified themselves as Independent. After 2012 and by 2014 that number surged to 42% of the electorate identifying themselves as Independent. That is an ENORMOUS change and 2/3s of those 42% identify themselves as conservatives with most of the rest as moderates or leaning conservative..

As a result of this huge growth in the ranks of Independents, there remain only 27% republican affiliated and 31% democrat affiliated. Of the 27% republican registered, 18% are conservative base and the rest moderate or establishment, and the conservative base are mostly following Cruz and now Trump. Of the democrats 31%, 8% (of electorate) are Latino-Americans and 5% (of electorate) are Reagan democrats. Cruz will take 40% of the Latino vote (as he did in TX) and all of the Reagan democrats or will share them with Trump.

Cruz has also tapped into the 17 million apathetic but conservative-leaning Americans that don’t bother to register or vote because they see a one-party system and correctly determine that the candidates offered represent the same oligarchs. So they withdraw and stay quiet until they have had contact in town halls with Ted Cruz. Now they are fired up.

There is no danger of a Perot-like splinter of the GOP. There is the very real possibility that Cruz/Trump takes (in % of total electorate) 28% as Independents, 3% Latino-Americans, 5% of Reagan democrats, up to 18% of the GOP conservative base and millions more who are inspired for the first time in a generation to register and show up to vote.

No matter how it is sliced, Cruz/Trump or Trump/Cruz leave the democrats and GOPe at a loss in a 3-way race. If a 3rd party movement were to emerge, the only way to stop the above confluence of political realities is to fantasize that the democrats and republicans will merge officially <— NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.

But a 3rd Party movement is still in the fringe and will likely not happen. However, a merging of Trump and Cruz is very possible.

No he doesn’t. And I don’t mean anything anecdotal, just send me a link to ANYONE within the Dem Party on any level that supports him.

All I read (and I read a lot) is they hope we nominate him because he’s such an idiot. (I agree with the Dims on this one. He is).

He stands ZERO chance of winning.

I think Trump thinks McCain is running for President. That is all he is talking about. One day he is going to realize that McCain isn’t running. I wonder how long it will be before he looks at the list of candidates running and finds that McCain isn’t running.
