I don’t think I have ever seen Microsoft panic about anything...lol
Where did you get October? The original planned release date, announced months ago is July 29th.
Windows 8 and 8.1 have been great, perfectly stable since release.
Oh goodie another in Microsofts attempts to raise my blood pressure.
Fix Pack 1 in 10...9...8...7...
I have windows seven on two machines and I have two tablets that both have 8.1. I love the 8.1 on the tablets however I really like seven on the desktops.
I guess it makes sense to have two different operating systems if you have two different types of computers but it makes even more sense to have one universal platform for every device including phones.
Several years ago when Windows phones first came out I had one and liked but you had to use a stylus with it. I have gotten used to android and really like it now.
I’m hopeful for the future but I have my doubts. I will upgrade at least one of my desktops to 10 to see how it is. If I like it perhaps I will switch my tablets also, we’ll see.
Cool.
with patches to follow..
business as usual ..
hopefully its zipper.. and hipper..
Im gonna wait til the flood is over download wise.. see how things bob in the water..
no abort, refry or flail dialog box for me. ;-)
Yur blessed .. you have a approved slot to get it before a lot of other folks..
That is good.
Now, they can start on R1 and have it ready when Win10 hits the fan.
I have Win7 on my desktop. I do not allow automatic updates.
One day, however, I noticed my old tabbed IE-based browser would not work. I like (and still use) that old IE-based browser because of some built-in features not in other browsers.
I started searching for the cause and found that Windows/MS had automatically replaced Win7’s IE9 with IE10 — without my permission to do so. I was able to uninstall IE10 and revert back to IE9.
I have not ‘updated’ Win7 on my laptop and desktop in over a year. Too many of their new updates caused too many conflicts. Some even killed some laptops from the same manufacturer as mine.
I have found a ‘state’ where all of my software and hardware work together. I do not want updates messing that up.
Thanks for the warning.
Frankly, what was wrong with 3.1? And why do they feel the need to throw out one version just to rewrite another? Just tweak the one that works.
98 worked well. XP worked well. ME was a joke. Vista was, to me, useless after XP. Now I have hard drive and mother board issues on my machines and I know I’ll have to upgrade and I dread it. Will have to spend another 6 months just trying to change the settings back to the way I like them.
I also hate the way they force you onto new OS just to support IE. Thus, right now, I’m stuck on IE9 and this old Vista OS won’t let me go up to 11. Many websites don’t support IE9 now.
And I hate Apple. Heck, I’m sick of the hardware manufacturers. Had IBM, sucked and died. Had Dell, ditto. HP - machines lasted about 3 years and had problems. At least I never tried Gateway! lol
/bitch session
Do I want it?
That depends on you...
It took me quite some time to get used to win 8, that I have on a Surface tablet..My first encounter with it did not go well.
However, If you do not have the same issues that I have, I think taking the free upgrade is worth it..
Not sure why they are doing it free...My gut feeling is that they want everyone to adopt it. It would be better for them and the OS works across all devices..plus the new browser is suppose to be the best they have ever made...purportedly..
I got a gaming laptop as a substitute for building a new desktop (getting lazy, I guess), and it came with 8.1.
I have to tell you, for the first couple days, I hated it, but once I figured out the short cuts, it was really OK. The big thing wasn’t that I got to like the tiles—I ignore them—or the silly program menu—I don’t much care for that either. But, it is rock stable, and to me—an intermediate user—seems to have much better tools built in for checking processes and usage than win 7 did.
I hope that in addition to improving the interface on Win 10, they don’t spend so much time trying to get the “work everywhere” guts in line that they compromise the stability.
Lol....if it were only that simple.. Beginning with win 8, MS is going in the direction you would like, however the issues with MS are 99% connected to their trying to satisfy everyone who runs older programs designed for windows. If I am right, those days may be coming to a end..
Yes it is rock stable.....I have never had a glitch with it in 3 years..
I hate it when that happens.
