Heavy metal was the No. 1-selling music genre in 1989, and parents feared the worst: that Satan worship, drug use, loads of sex, and suicide went along with it, write researchers in the journal Self and Identity.
Records were burned, "Parental Advisory" warning labels were born, and some '90s research suggested that teens who were into metal had a boatload of problems. And then decades passed.
How did those metalheads turn out? Pretty OK, found the team led by Humboldt State University psychologist Tasha Howe, reports Billboard.

Yeah, I turned out OK.
Reminds me of Michael Savage’s story of how he took his son’s Metallica CDs away. Years later he started listening to them, decided he like the music, and used it for bumper music. Meanwhile his son started Rockstar energy drinks and is now a multimillionaire.

Hell I still listen to it. I don’t like this growling screaming crap like “Insane Clown Posse”, or “Marilyn Manson”, but I still listen to “Metallica”, “Queensryche”, “Skid Row”., “Ozzie”, etc.
I’m fine, married, clean, and mostly sober, have grandsons.
Cut the hair off years ago, but the hearing is above average. I hear stuff most people don’t.
Have a strange craving for the smell of “Aquanet” every once in a while. :)
