And why not? “Jesus” is really just a stand-in in this question for morality writ large, right? If you support SSM you think the practice is moral (I should hope), and if you’re a Christian who believes something is moral, almost by definition you need to believe Jesus thinks so too. There’s nothing doctrinal about this, by Carter’s own admission. It’s just “I feel strongly this is right, ergo God must as well.”

The funny thing is that I’ve had a liberal try to state that the owners of Sweet Cakes and Memories Pizza were NOT Christians (because of their opposition to homo “marriage”).

In an interview with the Atlanta Journal-Constitution published today, Carter says Southern Baptist leaders reading the Bible out of context led to the adoption of increasingly “rigid” views.
“I’m familiar with the verses they have quoted about wives being subjugated to their husbands,” he told the paper. “In my opinion, this is a distortion of the meaning of Scripture. … I personally feel the Bible says all people are equal in the eyes of God. I personally feel that women should play an absolutely equal role in service of Christ in the church.”
Southern Baptists are the United States’ largest Protestant denomination, with 15.9 million members.

So he was the typical Obama type liberal presidential candidate claiming to be a Christian. Then the charade ends some time after the reign of liberalism.
Asa young college student, I voted for Jimmy Carter in the primary. I ended up voting for Gerald Ford in the final election. I so much wanted to believe his “born again” experience and his simple Georgia roots. I loved the fact that he fished, played softball and seemed like a genuine person. His homestead, and school seem to reflect this. He married his sweetheart Lilian and reminded me of Harry S. Truman. But, alas, democratic politics or something rotted his convictions. He became pro-palestinian, pro-gay, amidst a host of other ungodly beliefs. It is a warning to me that one can leave the true faith and become enmeshed in the demonic throes of liberal democratic socialism. I do admire the fact that he has returned to his Georgia home and lives an unpretentious lifestyle.
