NASCAR faces ‘Southern Thunder’ as Confederate flags fly at Daytona
Washington Post ^ | 6 July 2015 | Lindsey Bever

Fans at Florida’s Daytona International Speedway were having none of what some of them called “political correctness” this weekend and let the Confederate flag fly, despite NASCAR’s call for its removal.

Above tents and trailers at the Coke Zero 400 it flew, including a version featuring a menacing skull-faced rider with the slogan: “The South Will Rise Again.” It decorated clothing, tee-shirts hailing “Southern Thunder,” and adorned coolers, beer cozies and skin, in the form of tattoos.

And there were no apologies.

I like seeing the fans revolt.

I would rather see them bankrupt NASCAR or force the PC "leadership" out.

I agree. Southerners need to walk away from NASCAR. I did.

The flag represents everything liberals hate, God, family and hard work.

Pray America is waking

Its WAY past time for a PC revolt. I can’t think of anything much more destructive to whole societies than PC and Equality. PC is lying anyway you look at it.

NASCAR is going PC in order to “grow”. Apparently having 200,000 to 300,000 attend an event wasn’t good enough so they are going for the metrosexual watching TV.

This needs to be posted on every blog and website that has NASCAR fans. Rooting for a driver this season (or next) isn't worth what is at stake.

They have moved from moonshine running roots to an attempt to appeal to the wine spritzer crowd. I quit watching shortly after Dale Sr.was killed.

NASCAR, in its attempt to accommodate, is like the GOP.

They are driving away their followers in droves, which will end weakening them, and an alternative venue found(read 3rd party).

It’s good to see people who don’t bend over and let the politicians do to them whatever they want.

Anybody got any wide shots of the infield? Any count on how many pansies traded in their flag? I was hoping there were thousands of them flying. Still drivin’ the wrong way on PC Boulevard. :>}

Is NASCAR making the same mistake that the NFL did? That would be pandering to loudmouth elitists who aren't going to like the product anyway. The goal of the groupthink maniacs is the destruction of anything in the US that represents real men and pride in our traditions, history, and culture.

(I'm old enough to remember real men and real rock and roll and real stock car races and real US can-do ingenuity)

Nascar attendance has been slipping for years, to the point that tracks are removing the cheap seats so TV shots don't show vistas of empty stands.

It doesn't help that they've spent so much time and money reminding their fan base of Nascar's rural roots and rum running background. That isn't the market share these Ivy League MBAs want.

Right now there are Nascar marketers in Armani suits wondering what happened with this whole plot to dump the hicks and hook a whole new urban fan base of liberal apartment dwellers. (They forget that urban hipsters hate automobiles in general, and large American cars in particular.)

The comments left at that link are simply stunning and shows how ignorant people can be on this issue.

One person stated that the flag represents slavery.
The reply was it did not , only for the dope to come back and say read the Southern declaration .

Of course the dope does not understand the battle flag was a battle flag which never flew as the official Govt flag. It was designed to distinguish between the two warring armies.
If they knew the stars and bars then they could maybe have a point , but their anger is misplaced and ignorant.

Too many sports organizations are trying to tell their fans what to do and how to live. The fans need to push back. Stop supporting those organizations for awhile and they will quickly get the message.
