What was said at the pulpit of your church this or last week?

Posted on 07/05/2015 5:56:42 PM PDT by MNDude

A lot of empty heads probably consider the rainbow flag fad and SCOTUS ruling as a short feel good moment in the name of civil rights.

Many in the church realize the ramifications for this are huge. If the events in the last two weeks didn't wake up the church, I'm not sure if anything will.

I'm curious...what did your pastor\priest or rabbi say about the recent ruling and pro-homosexual agenda sweeping our nation this or previous Sunday?

Last Sunday, the homily at our Anglican parish began by expressing shock that so many were shocked at the ruling. The priest said he'd been called Chicken Little for a long time when he kept expecting the SCOTUS to rule that way.

He also said that he would use the coming weeks to look for ways that the lessons in the lectionary (we use the Revised Common Lectionary) shed light on the current stituation for Christians in the near and far term. I recall he claimed the Supreme's ruling was "wicked and Satanic."

Today's gospel reading came from Mark 6 where John the Baptist got a shoulder-length head-cut.

The priest used the homily to compare that event with the SCOTUS ruling, pointing out that like John's preaching against Herod, the SCOTUS ruling upset all the ways Christians had accomodated themselves to worldly values and agendas.

He pointed out how Herod beheading John and the SCOTUS ruling placed an urgent issue in the laps of every American Christian: would he further compromise the gospel? Or would he repent and rebel against a government opposed to the teaching of Jesus and the apostles.

Finally, he cited the examples of current Christians who were suffering persecution (e.g. the Oregon bakers) for refusing to offer a pinch of incense to the gay-idol.

All in all, it looks like our priest is going to work to prepare his flock to offer a faithful testimony to the gospel and their Saviour.

The basic unit of society is not the individual. It is the family.

The elites seek to destroy that unit.

Our rabbi say “NO” Period.

May I inquire, American Orthodox, Chasad, Conservative or Reformed? (I take for granted your synagogue is not Reconstructionist.)

I reckon the Left has caused a rebellion from the Right the likes of which they’ve never seen before. It will show exactly how many are Americans and how many are - other.

My preacher said exactly what I expected: That the church does not endorse or approve of gay marriage, that we should love the sinner in order to bring more to Christ, but that this decision is a omen of persecution to come.

I Wish my pastor would've spoken with such clarity and conviction.

Before I launch into my disappointment, I have to set the context. My family and I attend a large Christian non-denominational church. Our church is a mix of Catholics, ex-Catholics, Protestants, Lutherans, AG, Baptists, etc..

We have five services on the weekends, each one pretty much packed. Our worship center holds 1,700 people, over-flow with full video/audio for another 600 on site.

On any given weekend, about 10,000 +/- come through our doors.

My family and I have been members of this church for 17 years. Wife and I were baptized into Christ in this church, we support it financially (yes, we tithe) and have been members of this church since it was about 350 people.

My wife is a pre-school administrator for the pre-school our church runs and has been for the past 7 years or so. I was part of the Tech ministry at our church for a very long time running sound boards and anything else that was needed.

So we're "heavily invested" on almost every level with our church.

That sets the context for what I'm about to say.

I was frankly shocked, and very disappointed that our Pastor chose to literally not speak out on the topic. This was our Pastor's chance to speak with moral clarity and certainty -- and on every other topic I've seen & heard him speak including abortion, sex before marriage, etc.. he's been rock solid.

Last Sunday, I saw a Pastor that I've greatly respected stand up and say that he was aware that "the media" was in the church, they were looking for a "sound bite" to misquote and he wasn't going to give one to them. He stated simply that any church member who wanted to know the Church's stance on gay marriage that members of the staff and church elder's were available to meet with them privately to discuss it.

Beyond that, our Pastor said now more than ever was a time to pray for the restoration of America.

Now, I don't know if our Pastor was being "smart" or if he took the easy road. I'm still struggling with that.

What I *do know* is that on this specific issue, he did not speak with the same moral clarity and certainty as he's done on other, equally sensitive issues in the past.

That bothers me. A LOT. Enough so that I'm going to request a meeting with him to discuss it.

Awesome! We have such a congregation in our town. I have enjoyed visiting there several times.

NOT ONE WORD at my parish. So far, I have not heard it was mentioned anywhere in the entire diocese. Sadly.

I wouldn't fault him on that. You know that taxpayer funds are used for IRS agents to enter churches and tattle on them if they break the political endorsement rules, right? The Bible says we are to be wise as serpents as well as gentle as doves.

Cool! I love it when unknowing Christians challenge me on that. I attend Congregation Emmaus. Congregation Emmaus is associated with the Messianic Jewish Alliance and Foursquare International. See:http://www.man-na.com/Messianic_Congregations_in_Washington.htm

You may find more students of flute in a place that does not “flout” (ok, I strained for that pun).

Yeah. My pastor not only clearly stated that Matthew 19 and Mark 10 clearly state Christ’s reiteration of God’s will in Genesis 2 - that man and woman were made to complete one another - but continued in saying that sexual sin is a rebellion against God. Also, that Christ and the Church are the groom and bride, and that saying otherwise is rebellion against God.

We need to CLEARLY STATE that if you wish to call us bigots, YOU MUST CALL OUR SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST A BIGOT: We’re just following his rules.

I had a Christian friend try to argue the liberal talking point that Christ wast talking about divorce and I simply told him “Have you not read that God created them MAN and WOMAN, and that the two become one flesh?” There is no escape from Christ’s words.

A lay preacher filled in at the Southern Baptist congregation where I go. He preached on Habakkuk and pointed out that God will eventually address the problem even if it seems like nothing is happening now.

Personally, I’ve found Southern Baptists to be pretty accurate prognosticators, with a realistic view. This “gay” movement is going to end up punishing itself, even if nobody else comes in to punish it. The devil doesn’t care — from his viewpoint he got to destroy and hurt a lot of humanity and that is his game.

Ours began reading the Time Magazine editorial that calls for ending tax exempt status for churches and nonprofit organizations. He went on to say many people, probably many attending church supported this without think about the ramifications.
He started listing ramifications such as church persecution, the things public schools will start teaching kids. He said “think of how many needy people are helped by nonprofit organizations and how many of these might be lost now.”

He said God has established marriage between a man and a woman and the Church will never ever change their stance on this.

Interesting thought. How do you think this could happen?

We are in the middle of a series on the seven deadly sins.

In general, nothing hardly mentioned on end times prophecy... ever.

Not that I am to judge, but maybe its because we have a lot of luke warm "Christians" at church (and I go to one of the more conservative Bible teaching churches in Silicon Valley).

Great site! Here are the Messianic Jewish congregations in my state. For those on the thread who may not know about this movement, it is synagogues for Jews who believe that Jesus is the Messiah. Although, the one near me also has some congregants who were born in Christian families who enjoy the traditionally Jewish Old Testament parts of the worship, fellowship and holy days as well as the Gospel parts.
