Doug Legler had a simplistic nature and always wanted to make people laugh.
Even though he spent most of his life working as a driver for Nash Finch, he didn’t want his career choice listed in an obituary.
In fact, Legler had a simple request from his family when he died.
He said he didn’t want a detailed narrative of his life.
When he passed recently, his family felt obligated to follow his wishes.
Legler’s obituary was even shorter than his name.
It simply read, “Doug Died.”
“He said over and over, ‘When I die, I want my obituary to just say, ‘Doug Died,” said Janet Stoll, Legler’s daughter.
The 85-year-old had a “gruff exterior,” but had a “heart of gold.”
“He was very lighthearted and had a great sense of humor,” she said. “He was very quick-witted, and funny. He was one of a kind, he really was. Everyone loved him that met him.”
The family told WDAY that a service will be held Thursday.
However, Stoll is a little worried people won’t know where to go since it wasn’t included in Legler’s obituary.
They say it serves as a final prank by the good-natured jokester.
“I’m sure he’s laughing up there now,” Stoll said.

The first correct usage of the word that describes a form of human execution: hanged
remember pictures are hung, people are hanged.
When men are “hung,” it means something way different than “executed.”
I think these are a great idea!
“They said you was hung...”
“...And they was right !”
I am well aware of the colloquialism about men and hung.
HOWEVER, if the previously mentioned men are hanging from a gibbet or a tree, or even a chandelier they are hanged.
Oh, of course. There’s nothing to say a man who’s hung can also be hanged. Or vice versa.
Wonder if anyone changed their name on the head stone to names they liked Doc Holiday......................
