A teachable moment, and a great opportunity to teach your children what I taught my kid on the first day of 1st grade:
“Some of what they teach you in school is always true. Some is true for now. And some of it is totally wrong. It will be your job in school to find out which is which.”
Now my teenager is a high school sophomore, and I’m proud to say that she has learned that lesson well.
The parents’ anger needs to be translated into action. This a war and it needs to be prosecuted like one to the greatest legal extent possible. Target the School Board members by picketing their houses; hire PIs to dig into their backgrounds, find bases to file suits against them in their individual capacity. If they have businesses, do the same. They need to fear the people, not the other way around.

I don’t see they have a choice. After the Supreme Court changed the laws, it would be discriminatory to talk about marriage at all without mentioning same sex marriage. And “Heather has Two Mommies” will be required reading in the first grade.
Next year Houghton Mifflin Harcourt will be looking to publish “Yolanda has a Baby Daddy and Three Mommas.” To be issued to all elementary schools. Get your manuscripts in early. This will be a big seller.
