United Airlines Flight Forced To Turn Around After Passenger Refuses To Stop Smoking

Though it might seem like “no smoking” signs on airplanes aren’t even needed anymore — who could possibly think lighting up a cigarette in an enclosed cabin filled with other people is okay? — there are apparently those out there who still need reminding that smoking isn’t allowed. To wit: a United Airlines flight headed to Boston from Denver was forced to turn around after a passenger reportedly lit up and refused to stop smoking.

Officials said the flight returned to Denver International Airport around midnight on Friday due to a disturbance on board, an airport spokesperson told Channel 2 News in Colorado.

A male passenger was smoking in the bathroom, a United representative said, which goes against federal regulations.

Guy deserves 5 minutes alone in a room with the passengers: One at time, no questions asked. Start with the five biggest guys and work your way down.

They should have done something like that before turning around.

I would be as pissed at United as at the turd head in the bathroom.

What is the bathroom door made of, reinforced titanium? I don't think so.

Just put out the cigarette on his sensitive parts. Then re-light it and repeat to make sure you really got it extinguished.

Should have just locked him in the john for the entire flight.

Funny, I thought the BARE WIRES were named by the NTSB as the cause of that crash.

Izzat you Drango?

According to that, the fire was likely caused by a short circuit, not smoking.

Yes, thank you, and that is why the flight had to terminate. Better to stop at the gate than in a field.

I saw nothing about smoking as the cause of the fire.

On a flight from New York's Kennedy to Athens, the entire crew smoked back in the tail section after dark and drawing the curtain, in 2005.

A passenger complained when another passenger lit up in the bathroom (which presumably had the smoke detectors deactivated.)

When a crew member responded to the help light, he reeked of smoke and sported his own cigarets in his breast pocket. He told the complaining passenger he "didn't find anything wrong" and to "go back to sleep, she must have been dreaming."

I'll certainly never fly a Greek airline again.

>>Did the pilot announce “I’ll turn this plan right around and we can go back home”. Lol<<

No, the Pilot probably asked him if he had enough Cigarettes for everyone, the way my Elementary Teacher did when she caught one of us chewing Gum in Class.

I wonder if the Supreme Court will rule in his favor citing some Language that isn’t part of the Constitution?

Re: who could possibly think lighting up a cigarette in an enclosed cabin filled with other people is okay?

I remember one particular time flying a DC-10, when I got stuck in the back in the smoking section.

The DC-10 cabin was very large, and had the aspect of a small movie theater. The seats were well above the center of rotation when the plane banked, so it resembled a gaint amusement ride.

When we took off on this particular occasion, and the captain lighted the smoking lamp after a few minutes, I was impressed by the absurd spectacle of the instant and clamorous lighting and puffing of cigarettes, which immediately filled the air with smoke. I thought it was rather humorous at the time, but the experience is seared in my memory.

I can tell you for sure this is onetime when Yes ma’am is not the right answer. Fortunately I was able to learn this at Alex’s expense.

I and many others did it all the time when we flew back in the 70’s and 80’s until the PPOP’s took control of this country ....nobody died.”

I was a flight attendant during the 1960’s and early 1970’s. Most everyone smoked while flying including the crew. No one ever got sick from all the germs in the air like they do now whenever they fly, perhaps because we had great ventilation systems. Seems like when they eliminated smoking the quality of the ventilation went in the dumper.

Loved the PPOP’s! Made my day. Thanks.

Why yes, yes I do.

That answer would get you the Principal’s Office faster than the Liberals on the SCOTUS could shred the Constitution.
