Back in the olden days, when I first joined FRee Republic; when I no longer could stand to lurk anymore and had to comment, I chose afraidfortherepublic as my screen name.
We were in the heart of the Clinton impeachment scandals (1998). Also the Elian Gonzalez saga. The screen name seemed appropriate.
Some people thought it was too long, and they call me AFTR for short. After W was sworn in, a number of other FReepers encouraged me to change my screen name, but I declined because I still feared for the future of the Republic.
Jes' sayin' that the SCOTUS decisions and the behavior of the WH just proves that my instincts were right.

The Holy Spirit comforts me by reminding me that God is still in control, Christians will be few in number and we will be mocked and scorned just like our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ was. The promises of God are true and we know how the story ends.

Where is this Republic you speak of?? I know the USA was once a Republic, but the 17th Amendment changed all that a long time ago. SO I ask again, where is this Republic? We were in a Democracy until yesterday, now we are just in TYRANNY!

My elderly father and I had a talk about it today. We are in agreement that maybe 250 years or so is the shelf-life of democratic republics.
He has been really upset today about the gay color lights on the White House. I mean really upset. The only other time I can recall politics getting to him this much was when I was a teen and he fussed at me for not wanting to watch the Watergate hearings on the tube.

It seemed like 50% of the people I know,most straight, have overlad their facebook photos with that rainbow. I guess they are saying yay, all their gay friends can marry. They don’t understand the overreach of the court because it doesn’t bother them if gay people marry. It’s all fine when the decision doesn’t affect you. What will come next?

It’s like when we are hurt over and over in the same way but let it slide until one time we just get sick of it and, boom! We lose it.
