Greek crisis: Parliament approves referendum, after bailout extension rejected — as it happened
http://www.theguardian.com/business/live/2015/jun/27/greek-crisis-mps-referendum-tsipras-eurogroup-ministers-live

Dramatic day sees Greek MPs vote to hold a referendum on its bailout terms, hours after Euro finance ministers refuse to extend its bailout, bringing default closer

1.02am BST20:02

The details of the vote are being checked, but it looks like a substantial majority in favour of referendum.

— Loukia Gyftopoulou (@loukia_g) June 27, 2015

Correction: 179 yes, 120 no

That’s because the extremist Golden Dawn lined up with MPs from the left-wing Syriza coalition, and the populist right-wingers of ANEL.

12.58am BST19:58

GREEK GOVERNMENT WINS REFERENDUM VOTE

A majority of Greek MPs have voted in favour of holding a referendum on its bailout terms on Sunday, 5th July.

Even though, as covered through the day, that bailout it set to expires in three day’s time.

Leftists always blame other people. Kick them out and hold them to their obligation.

I don’t know Greek either but the Greeks are apparently baffled why the rest of Europe can’t agree with the Greeks’ proposal to “we’ll make the €1.6bn to the IMF on June 30th if you just advance us another €6.8bn (or whatever the exact figure is) right now. After all, that type of proposal has been agreed to repeatedly for many years.

The unacceptable (to the Greeks) alternative is for the Greeks to live within their means (a foreign concept to them).

Deadline is Friday!
Deadline is Monday!
Next payment is due on Wednesday and can not be extended!
Ministers are meeting as Tuesdays deadline nears!
Thursday is the deadline for Greece to make its payment!
Sunday is the day!

Anyone else getting a little tired of this BS?

Yes to referendum, I presume. Me, I think Greek default/grexit/new deal is already accounted for.

> Greece’s parliament has voted in favor of Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’ motion to hold a referendum on the country’s creditor proposals for reforms in exchange for loans. Tsipras and his coalition government have urged people to vote against the deal, throwing into question the country’s financial future.

I read elsewhere 1/3 of atm’s were dry.

drudge had articles saying the IMF and EU bankers were refusing to allow a national referendum to accept the deal. The apparently fear the public voting.

Of course none of this has anything to do with actually leaving the EU.

This is not about money this is about political power.

the question really is who wants to be next.

Germany wants to make an example to scare the other nations.

England (UK) wants the EU to fail.

Something about an Emu. Probably can't decide if they should roast it or fry it.

“not about money this is about political power.”

If you have the power, you can get the money

From the start new terms were constantly being added to the terms on Greece.

The issue now is not paying but HOW the payments will be collected. Pension cuts (see social security) and increasing taxes even higher. (see the power to tax is the power to destroy)

It also includes restrictions on exploiting their own natural resources.

In other news, Franco is still dead, and Republicans are very close to getting to the bottom of the IRS scandal.

Well, if you owe a few thousand dollars and can’t pay it, you are in trouble.

If you owe a few billion dollars and can’t pay it, the lender is in trouble.

Yep. I suppose we could always offer to give our Chinese creditors Washington, DC, but the place might be a little too communist for their tastes...
