The clot scare that led Samuel L Jackson to go 'hardcore vegan'

Hollywood star Samuel L. Jackson became an unlikely poster boy for veganism after losing 3st on a diet – and now he has revealed his motivation: he recently survived a life-threatening blood clot near his heart.

The 66-year-old Pulp Fiction actor, who is fronting men’s cancer charity One For The Boys, claims adopting a no-meat, no-dairy lifestyle has transformed his health.

‘Because I was losing weight, people thought I was dying. They feared I had cancer, but I was just on a hardcore vegan regime,’ says the star. ‘My doctor said it was my greatest chance of staying alive – and it worked.

‘I lost weight, lowered my blood pressure, lowered my cholesterol levels and my body mass index. But I’m lucky. I’m forced to get a full medical before every film otherwise I can’t get insurance. The average man doesn’t have that luxury, so it’s important they stay vigilant.’

I don’t know how much the vegan diet is helping Bill Clinton or Samuel L Jackson. At least in these photos (at source) he does not look very good. He’s got the Dachau look.

Yeah way to skinny. At least double the daily food intake even if he feels that meat and milk product are not good for the heart at this time. He does look awful.

It’s not.

You need to regulate your diet better and focus on portions and activity. Being gaunt and weak is not good either.

I had treatment for atrial fibrillation that scared me sufficiently to radically change my diet. I don’t have bread pastas and sugars around the house. I focus on fruits vegetables and nuts & eggs. Occasionally I’ll eat meat. I usually don’t eat dairy. But not always. I’ll violate all rules from time to time. I fast every other day.

A big gut will press up under the chest as well as outward. That upward pressure on the heart will help to cause atrial fibrillation. So I’ve had to lose the gut.
