'Cinnamon Can Kill' Says Mother Of Boy Who Died After Eating Too Much Cinnamon

A child in Kentucky died after he swallowed and choked on cinnamon powder on June 3.

The boy's mother, Brianna Radar, told reporters how her 4-year-old son, Matthew, had been climbing around their family’s kitchen and was able to get hold of some cinnamon powder before eating it and breathing it in.

“He started choking,” the mother said. “It was like he was having a seizure and just collapsed.”

The 4-year-old was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead after an hour and a half.

According to the coroner, he had choked on the cinnamon when he inhaled it.

This death comes at the heels of a popular online trend called the "cinnamon challenge” where participants film themselves eating spoonfuls of the powder, resulting in many of them choking.

According to the LA Times, poison control centers all over the country took hundreds of calls regarding the cinnamon challenge in the first few months of 2012.

Radar hopes her son’s death serves as a warning to people about the dangers of cinnamon.

“To let people know cinnamon can kill,” she said. “All these kids do the cinnamon challenge. They don’t think about the fact it can hurt them.”

Her son’s organs have been donated.

Are there popular social media stunts that dare users to swallow a spoonful of ground comet or dishwashing powder in under 60 seconds without drinking anything ? If so, I hope a big warning are made of those like this mother is trying to do.

I remember posts last year with idiots dowsing themselves with lighter fluid then then setting themselves ablaze.

Don’t laugh, they did it with gasoline containers.

I wonder how many people are going to be harmed using funnels after removing the new "safe" spouts versus how many with the old spouts. I have one gas can with the new spout and never got it to work right.

“and breathing it in”

It was not the “eating” it that killed him.

Dihydrogen Monoxide FAQ

Dihydrogen Monoxide (DHMO) is a colorless and odorless chemical compound, also referred to by some as Dihydrogen Oxide, Hydrogen Hydroxide, Hydronium Hydroxide, or simply Hydric acid. Its basis is the highly reactive hydroxyl radical, a species shown to mutate DNA, denature proteins, disrupt cell membranes, and chemically alter critical neurotransmitters....

Looks like dead mice too.

At a San Francisco university someone with a clipboard went around gathering names on a petition to ban Dihydrogen Monoxide:

"Just watch, some Nanny state politician will come up with the idea to redesign the caps on Cinnamon containers to limit how much can be dispensed."

Cinnamon is a controlled substance in Europe. The elites heavily restrict the cinnamon roll. The people are permitted a certain amount of cinnamon per danish. It is to protect people from themselves:

No, that is not necessarily so. It’s very easy to choke on cinnamon powder, actually, because it is an irritant that makes the air passages close off almost immediately. I was baking something once and dropped the powdered cinnamon, making a little cloud of powdered cinnamon come out of the can. I bent down to pick up the can and inhaled some of the cinnamon dust as I did so, and I thought I was going to meet my fate right there in the kitchen.

Your throat and air passages close up right away. I knew what had happened and I told my self to be calm and not suck it further in, but a child is not going to know that.

And doesn’t it contribute to climate change?

"Cinnamon is a controlled substance in Europe. The elites heavily restrict the cinnamon roll."

One type of cinnamon is controlled. What the Europeans control is cassia cinnamon, not true cinnamon. The two are cousins but have at least one significant difference. Cassia can contain high levels of the blood thinner coumarin which I suppose could pose a problem if you are taking a blood thinning medicine.

Cassia is the most common cinnamon in use in the United States but never was in Europe. Cassia has a stronger flavor than true cinnamon.

“This has nothing to do with allergy. You try eating a small amount like an 1/8 tsp full of cinnamon and see what happens”

You are absolutely correct, and please - anyone reading this, please don’t try eating ground/powdered cinnamon.

While in college 9 years ago, our daughter, at the urging of her then boyfriend and now husband, tried swallowing a teaspoon of cinnamon on a dare. She learned a lot from this experience, most of all not to do things on a dare, especially if they seem really stupid (by the way, she is actually pretty smart and her husband is now a dentist - so intelligent people can do really stupid things when young).
She ended up in the hospital after choking on it very badly - taken to the emergency room and had trouble breathing for several days.

I believe plastic gas cans became unusable with these new spouts (that don't work, or spill gasoline everywhere) because of a lawsuit or 3 involving Darwin Award contestants pouring gasoline from the container onto open fires.

This is why we can't have nice things.
