The features that will no longer work are taken from the official specifications page on Microsoft's Windows website, and reproduced below. The good news is that in some cases alternatives are available.

You can find all the Windows Ping list threads with FR search: search on keyword "windowspinglist".

I lasted for years on XP and will last for years on 7. Minimal issues and I plan on keeping it that way until I can’t.

Seems they’re beginning to purge some fluff.

They need to purge a lot more.

Win 7 will remain fully functional and still receive security updates until some time in 2020. Then it will start being a liability, as XP is now.

I, too, plan to keep running 7 for a good long time. But I expect I'll switch to 10 at some point.

Not to mention there’s a good chance that 20% of drivers for existing hardware will not work or work well, thereby crippling or blue screening your “upgraded” PC. And figure 10% of application software will fail as well. It’s clear to me from working with the technical releases of W10, that it’s likely W10 is going to have MAJOR, MAJOR problems.

For me, nothing can be as bad as 8.1, so I will upgrade.

LOL, yeah... well, actually I'd say that 8.0 was noticeably worse than 8.1.

I’ve been using the Win 10 beta for a few months now I definitely do not like it. Keep Win 7 for as long as you can.

If the software I use and the connected hardware gets stable drivers and updates, I might consider it before being forced to upgrade but for now, the sole problem I have is the loss of focus bug I can’t seem to sort out. Everything else is rock solid.

Any guidance there on the foocus thing would be greatly appreciated BTW.

For the last few days an icon has appeared on my Windows 7 desktop prompting me to get Windows 10. I went into preferences and checked the box telling it not to notify me anymore.

Wanna bet it shows up again tomorrow anyway?

Install Classic Shell,so you can banish Metro to hell and 8.1 will work just like Win7.

The oldest device I am using under Windows NT 10 is a micro-floppy drive.

It worked...but I think there were major bugs in the 64-bit driver. Moved it over to an ancient 386-class computer I use to test software targeting the equivalent embedded system.

Yeah, but they gotta roll the sucker out regardless. They're losing ground to Mac and Linux, they've got a ton of people who love Win7 and don't want to change, and there are still just as many people using WinXP as the total combined usage of Win8.0 and 8.1.

Microsoft HAS to get Win10 into the marketplace in time for the fall student season, and the holiday season after that, or they're doomed. Meaning they'll never get our from behind the 8-ball, even with their remaining large marketshare advantage.

So there will be a lot of crashes and losses and weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth. But the migration will happen, and it will eventually succeed.
