When my mom was young, her parents used a similar technique when they were working on their farm. Back then the rows were long and the younger ones were left on a blanket which they had to stay on for safety. She lived until 3 months shy of her 103rd birthday in 2007.
When my older kids were babies, my great aunt told me about the horrible way a friend of hers had trained her children. It sounded a lot like your description of “blanket training”. I guess it’s been around for awhile.
The big thing in our circle of friends about 15 years ago, when we all had our first child, was Growing Kids God’s Way. The way they all talked about it you would think the Ezzo’s had a special revelation from God. It never seemed right to my husband and me, but I felt pressured and tried the method a couple of times. Either my son was extremely strong willed or parents are willing to abuse their children to make them obey. No thanks.
I wonder how much Alex Rodriguez charges for this service.
The few times my daughter was irrational I showed her the back of my hand and slapped it.
That works!
The price of fame is steep.
These stories about child abuse, physical and sexual, from a fake “good christian” family, are disturbing, but far more disturbing are the inevitable FReepers among us who agree with the Duggars. Sick.
I would rather hang out with liberals than with people who admire child abuse.
Spank your child and people will say you are cruel.
But if you don’t bother to raise your child and it gets shot down dead in the street then people will feel sorry for you.
I’d rather have a living child.
So?!?
Any FReepers NOT get spanked with a belt, wooden spoon, etc?
All kids are different. My Mom said all she had to do was look at me like she was disappointed and I would cry and say I was sorry. I’m pretty much still that anxious to please.
Let me say that not one of my six children has been like that. They must all be as stubborn as my husband.
And they'll throw in a biblical passage to make all the abuse seem alright.
Some people are way too wrapped up in a reality television show.
You know, the best parents, all they had to do was slap a child’s wrist and say a stern “NO” and that’s it.
That whole “Train up a child” is nothing more than making money from people who don’t know how to do the above sentence.
They are not necessary “sick” but trying to find effective child rearing practices. When I was an unruly child, my father used a switch on me more than once. It was very effective at getting my attention. My own daughter didn’t need spanking after about the age of four. Verbal remonstrance was sufficient after then. There were a few techniques that I tried but quickly abandoned when they proved too harsh or ineffective when she was young.
This sure is different than being sick or worse, setting an unwanted infant out in the woods to starve to death, which was a standard action in some previous societies.
As an infant?
I never found it necessary to beat or even spank a child.
I would not even do to my dog, what they did to their kids.
You think spanking is compared to the other thing?
“When my mom was young, her parents used a similar technique when they were working on their farm. ..........”
I guess it’s good someone finally invented the playpen? That’s what my mom/grandma put is in when they did not want us hurt. They did not put us on a blanket and beat the hell out of us.
Whats sick about it?

Hitting a baby for moving? And you have to ask what’s sick about it?
It’s a baby, fluffy, not a pet golden retriever.
First he uses steroids & is banned from baseball for a year. Now, this?
