The Chicago Bears released defensive lineman Ray McDonald after he was arrested Monday in California on a domestic violence charge, the latest in a string of run-ins that have tested the boundaries of the N.F.L.s tougher personal conduct policy.
McDonalds release came nine months after he was arrested in a separate domestic violence case and just two months after the Bears signed him to an incentive-laden free-agent contract.
McDonald was not charged in the first case, and the San Francisco 49ers, his team last season, did not penalize him. But in December, three months later, the 49ers released him soon after learning that he was being investigated over an accusation of sexual assault.

I take it “released” is NFL-speak for “fired.”
and just yesterday I was reading about that football player that took the girl with cancer to the prom. I was thinking maybe there’s hope for the league. 1.5 million dollars gone. young foolish violent man
Have the Cowboys signed him yet?
the old Raiders would have
the nfl jumped the shark the moment Janet Jackson’s boob popped out. Its more spectacle than sport now.
the only question is whether it will finish destroying college football before it collapses upon itself.
Released him? Just like that? There must be a color, HD video showing McDonald landing a knockout punch on the lady’s chin. Because otherwise, releasing a prime cut of beef like McDonald is just crazy talk just because he’s an accused serial woman beater.
What if all the NFL wives lied and claimed domestic violence?
No season of football, if they do it in August. Surprised the NAGs haven’t tried getting them to do it. They get the kids, half his stuff, and can get a new husband that’s less broken down from injuries and steroids.
