The Duggar Family Homeschooling Curriculum Deals With Sexual Abuse In Disturbing Manner

But the curriculum he developed is still in place.

To begin with, the lessons seem to remove blame from the perpetrator and instead shift it onto the victim, as well as the parents. In one example, where a boy molests his younger sisters, the sisters are condemned for dressing immodestly, and the parents are also shamed for “exposing the boy to temptation” through the act of having him change his sister’s diapers.

“Modesty was a factor. It was not at the level it should have been in my family. It was not uncommon for my younger siblings to come out of their baths naked or with a towel. They would often run around the house for the next twenty minutes until my mom or sister got around to dressing them. Changing my younger sisters’ diapers when they were really young may not have been a big thing, but it really did not have to be that way[…] My younger sisters used to wear dresses often, but as they were young and not aware of modesty, they did not behave in them as they should.”

“Mom did not push the modesty unless we were in public, and Dad only had the opportunity to mention it during weekends. Little people do not realize their nakedness right away…[My mother] explained to me that she had no idea how visual male sexuality is, compared to women who are mainly by touch. I am so grateful my parents have changed so much of this area in our home.”

“A different lifestyle, with more modesty, might have prevented what happened.”

The creepiness is due to their Pharisaical lifestyle. Their lifestyle seemed more about Control and less about Grace.

“I wonder how many of the folks with an axe to grind against the Duggars are women and men that have ruined their child bearing lives by prolonged birth control, selfish endeavors, and/or putting everything ahead of their family resulting in alienation from their children.”

My Grandmother always said “Make your bed then lay in it”. Only axe I have to grind with these weirdos is for being lousy parents. I have nothing against them for the amount of kids they had only the way this situation was handled.

These people put blame on the victim for being raped. Okay fine, so if Mama Duggar gets raped by a stranger tomorrow should I get up and say “it’s HER fault she asked for it!”??? Certainly not but look at how this article says it’s the girls’ fault. These people are sick, and CPS should have taken these kids from them. Do you realize how Islam this is? Only Muslims blame the woman/girl for her rape.

I never watched the show, but I’ll buy that answer. A lot of Christians I know lack Grace.

You know, that fact that you even have to have a pre-packaged response prepared about this for whenever it comes up ought to tell you there’s a problem...

They are independent baptist who belong to no organized church. They rather have a small group of fellow indepents that worship together. Thus they are once again beyond scrutiny.

Bill Gothard was truly a false teacher and led many astray, however I do not know the extent of the Duggar's involvement in this group to accuse them.

You are begrudging them for teaching their children to only kiss and hold hands with their husbands/wives? Really?

You are also going to begrudge them for teaching their kids to dress modestly? I am not into the dress thing, but would I castigate those who do? By no means!

covetousness and schadenfreude can masquerade as righteous indignation. The pitch and tenor of the attacks leveled on a repentant sinner who seems to have turned his life around tells me that there are strange emotions at work here...

Once again, how can you accuse me of false witness when all I did was speculate? Aren't you guilty of what you are leveling at me?

So they don’t go to church.

No wonder they have issues

That doesn’t follow. I have a pre-packaged answer because the questions remain the same and the answer remains the same. The facts haven’t changed. The “problem” is that people don’t “hear” the first time and have to have the facts repeated for them.

Yes, Bill Gothard was a false teacher. I completely agree and have spoken about the deception of this man and his work. I do not know the extent of their involvement with Gothard and never heard them mention Gothard (but I only watched a couple episodes).

I could be wrong, but I am not going to stone a repentant sinner who has moved on successfully with a beautiful family of his own from something he did when he was 14. Am I trying to belittle his sin? No! Sin, especially sexual sin is horrible because it affects more than just the person. But my understanding is that this was not rape, sodomy, or other, but rather touching. Is it horrible? Yes! Should we throw him in prison or execute him? No.

I’m not accusing the Duggars of anything; it’s pretty common knowledge that they follow Gothard.

And I don’t “begrudge” them the way they bring up their children; it’s their choice. But I’m free to comment on it, and I think it’s strange and extreme.

One can dress modestly without being covered neck to feet. Legalism is a trap. Again, they can do what they want, but IMO it’s strange. The fact that Gothard tells women how to dress, how to wear their hair, etc. is more proof that the whole thing is a cult.

How do you know Josh Duggar is repentant? Have you talked to him? He came clean because the mess was made public. If he’s truly repentant, good for him, but neither you nor I can judge that.

Once again, as on other threads, I note that all of the crying and wailing is over poor Josh and his parents, with very little, if any, left over for the victims.

I agree nothing to adjudicate now. Redemption? Absolutely. But he would never hang out with my kids. The Duggar family should be held to account. Not held up as examples to emulate.
