An Omaha police officer and a suspect involved in a shootout Wednesday have died. Kerrie Orozco, 29, a gang unit officer, was serving a warrant on the Metro Area Fugitive Task Force when she was shot. Orozco is the 25th officer – and first female – in the department killed in the line of duty. Orozco had been taken to Creighton University Medical Center in extremely critical condition after being shot about 1 p.m. near Read Street and Martin Avenue.

Lets take this data one step further. Out of that 4.5%, lop off about 2.25% (one half) who are the females. Then divide the remaining 2.25% by 2 yet again, to estimate the percent of *young* black males who are the criminals. That is, about 1% of Nebraska's population commits a vastly disproportionate majority of its crimes.

Somewhere Thomas Sowell has written how black families, in the late 50s and early 60s, had better employment numbers and lower crime rates than whites in the same geographic area.
The difference was family structure. Not race.
It would be interesting to know the percentage of police officers who have died in the line of duty that were killed by blacks.
