Put differently, “religions must be about theology, not politics.”

The seeds of the American revolution were sown by the colonial churches.

I’m sure their #1 concern right now is Islam - they just have no trouble saying out loud what we no longer dare to.

What they want and what they have to tolerate are two different matters.
Religion happens anyway. It behooves the state to make it happen in the open so they can watch it. China has a problem with Muslims that isn’t going away. The totalitarian state vs the warrior religion.

Chinese leader: Religions must be free of foreign influence

I couldn't agree more. Which is why all foreign funding for mosques in the U.S. should be banned, as Austria did last year.

The left hates religion because the religious recognize an authority higher than the state. There it is.

Probably not, since they openly aid Islamic terrorism especially against the “Satans” of that “religion”.

That has always defined the left.

If that were so, then the colonies would have declared themselves independent of the British Empire in the 1600s.

Is The Almighty a “foreign influence”? After all, His kingdom is not of this world.

Actually, competing totalitarian models.

Christianity, especially, is revolutionary to the established order. China is a bureaucratic oligarchy that requires all of its institutions to adhere to a specific political path. Christianity is by its nature outside this path.
Christian leaders in China are under no illusions about the government’s hostility to their faith. The notion that religion must be free of foreign influence is a xenophobic reaction to the danger Christianity represents to the established order of China.

Precisely. Those who acknowledge that higher authority will, at some point, not be controlled.

Christ is Risen!

Our Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ was NOT Chinese!

And His home is with God the Father! We Orthodox Christians will celebrate Christ’s Ascension to His Father tomorrow in a Great Feast!!!!

So Christ is a “foreign” influence whether the Chinese Communists like it or not!

Christianity is growing in China. Christ is winning, and the commies are losing.

Indeed He is Risen!!!!

So... no Christianity, Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism, or Zoroastrianism - all of which are ‘foreign’ to China...?

Guess that leaves Taoism and Confucianism - if you can call the latter a ‘religion’.
