It’s always fun to sit around and war-game which country could beat up which, and it’s even better when you have hard facts to back up your arguments.
Below is a summary of the top ten militaries in the world, according to Global Firepower, which tracks military power through publicly-available sources. We’ve scrapped Global Firepower naval comparisons since they track naval strength by number of ships, making a patrol boat equal to a supercarrier. This list of the largest navies by weight is being used instead.

No real surprise here. The US spends $577 billion on defense per year, nearly four times more than China’s $145 billion budget. The US is behind both India and China on all measures of manpower but makes up for it with vastly superior airpower and a carrier fleet larger than any other country’s entire navy.

Its basically worthless unless you are willing to use it and the world knows it.
Our budget may be larger but a huge share of it is wasted on political pandering. In FCS I figured only a tiny percentage of each dollar went to buying hardware or software. The rest went to overhead and insanely wasteful political agendas. (Two integrators of integrators each spending 30% on overhead, each subcontractor spent 30% on overhead. Start with one dollar. Reduce it by the overhead of the two top companies. You have .40 left. Then give that .40 to a sub and .28 cents left. Now pile on the agenda spending...small business set asides, diversity, etc.)

Unless you reduce your military to Dad’s Army and then see Russian bombers ‘mistakenly’ invading your airspace on a frequent basis.
The United States and NATO is an awesome military force.
Putin’s one year draftees, and his lack of effective Air and Navy, and the Russia’s lack of ability to support and maintain a large, or sustained invasion, puts NATO in a great defensive position, as long as we don’t allow Putin to keep rebuilding the Soviet empire.
another interesting side note,,,,If you took only the number of deer hunting licenses issued in the state of ohio and assumed 1 rifle per license,and 1 person per rifle.Ohio by itself ranks as the 3rd largest standing army in the world.If you include PA,WV,and Michigan,they rand number 1.If you include every state in the united states the number is 10 times larger than the largest army in the world.Most of the hunters use camo,have experience in shooting from long distance,are used to adverse conditions,and have military experience.And Obama wants to takes whos guns?
15k tanks are useless. Conscripts that will run away are useless. Not able to project military power outside your front door is useless. Not having top notch logistics is useless.
Plus, Israel isn’t on the list.
Yep. This is a board game type evaluation. NBC capability, strategic situation, logistics ability, ability to withstand attrition, industrial capacity; lots of things left out.
Its not about the bucks or the men—its about the will to use it. Iran isn’t on the list but has the will. So does Israel. Putin has the will-—UK, France, Germany and USA lacks the will and will not act—only react. Before Obama leaves office—Putin should be in Keiv and Riga. China in North Korea and Vietnam, and India in oil rich Indonesia.
