Elderly Man Called 911 for Food Because He Couldn't Move

An elderly man who'd just returned home after months in the hospital said he was hungry, had no food and no one to turn to for help. So he dialed 911.

"I can't do anything. I can't go anywhere. I can't get out of my damn chair." Clarence Blackmon, 81, of Fayetteville, North Carolina, told the 911 operator, according to ABC station WTVD in Durham.

"I said, 'I'm not broken, I'm not bleeding, and I'm not in crisis. I just want somebody to help me buy some food,'" he told ABC News.

"Then the King will say to those on His right, 'Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in;

naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me."
Matthew 25:34-36

"Then they themselves also will answer, 'Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?'

"Then He will answer them, 'Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.'

"These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life."
Matthew 25:44-46

God bless you Marilyn Hinson and May he keep you and send his angels to watch over you.

She has to know before she can help.

Lots of people don't want anyone to know because they don't want help originally, until they find out that a little thing like getting out of the chair is impossible.

Really. I thought they didn’t discharge anyone without making sure they had someone to help them.

My church got a similar call from a total stranger several years ago. We brought food, provided transportation to and from the church twice a week, and otherwise adopted him into our church family. Nice guy. I wish the man in this story had called a church instead of 9-1-1, but I’m glad it worked out.

They only ask that from people they know have somebody to take care of them. Otherwise they bus them to skid row, wheelchair and all and just leave ‘em there.

seriously?...you expect the hospital or nursing home to guarantee food and drink for people it discharges now?....

I can guarantee that there is a reason this guy has no family or friends to turn to....

and I can guarantee that he would rather call 911 to beg for food rather than give up his assets and live in an adult foster home or skilled nursing facility.

I'll bet he was offered and referred to such facilities to live permanently but he refused....

I can't tell you how many people demand to be discharged home, knowing that they can't really walk, they can't drive, they live alone, and they have serious illnesses, but gee, living in another SAFE environement with food and drink and clean beds and heating and care givers around would mean giving up their SS money ane perhaps selling their home for their upkeep.....

he probably has plenty of money, a car, a home...

I have no sympathy for people that don't smell the coffee yet demand others expend energy so they can continue living their priviledge lives....

THat’s what the law says BUT reality is different. My son was a social wworker with the homeless (many vets) Patients would be kept minimum time and then out on their own without even a courtesy phone call to let him know so he could help them. At least he knew the time line and when to start looking for them

Welcome to the sh!t hole that democrats have created. They are hauling illegals in here from all over the world, paying them and supporting them in every imaginable way just for votes.
And to hell with elderly CITIZENS.
The democrats have nothing to gain by spending money on them.

It means more than that. It means giving up you dignity, you independence. It means placing your life in the hands of people who could in most cases couldn’t cared less if they tried. It means in most cases become a victim of physical, mental and emotional abuse.

I suggest you ponder the words in post #1 this thread and hopefully the Holy spirit will soften that stone that you have for a heart.

“I have no sympathy .....”

You made that very obvious.

I’m healthy and self-sufficient now. But almost 2 years ago, I was injured, had surgery, sent home. Wife and daughter had to go to work.

There were a couple of times when I was in despair. Combine the pain med’s side effects (anxiety, depression), pain itself, fear, the worst medical experience of my lifetime, etc.

I made it back physically and mentally. But I also gained some empathy for my fellowman when they are in despair.

We are not all so remarkably competent, together and all knowing as you. For your sake, you may never have to ask for help from anybody that knows you well.

the govt spends about $10 on the elderly compared to $1 dollar on children..

..I think the elderly rake it in pretty good....medicare, tax advantages, free meds, free coffee, special housing....

elderly have enjoyed the best part of SS while the rest of us will never even approach what they have pulled in...

and the elderly as a group have more wealth than any other group in the country....

if a 19yro old male in an apartment with a broken leg called 911 for food, he'd probably be put up on charges....

In early March I was out backblading snow from the driveway with the old "poorly maintained" John Deere 2510 that came with the farm I had bought last year. After replacing the points on it because it wouldn't start, I came to find out that the rockshaft control cable was broken as well and so to make the 3 point hitch go up and down I had to reach down from the operator seat and gingerly push on the lever on the valve that the cable used to be attached to... there isn't much room for my hand.

Well, the sleeve on my jacket eventually caught the rockshaft and it trapped my hand. It was wedged so hard I could not even wiggle my fingers to just tap the lever to raise the rockshaft.

I was pinned... alone... no wife up in the house, no helper standing by... no kids... no nothing... I felt like an animal caught in a trap, and the pain was excruciating, and my hand was turning purple.

I had no other option than to call 911... if I didn't have my cell phone in pocket... if the battery on that phone was dead (AS USUAL)... I would have probably froze to death sitting on that f***ing tractor with my hand wedged.

It's hard not to get emotional about the fact that I am so very alone in this whole thing with trying to get by on my own at the farm... I mean all I have are 2 kitties that I rescued from the milkhouse last July... and they really couldn't help me, no thumbs, ya know?

ANYWAYS... I feel for this man in the story... I myself, am afraid to die a lonely old man, but most people are, I think. I just have this overall feeling that it is high time that God send me a GOOD WOMAN to help me... but I think I am about given up on that.
