Two fans filed a class action lawsuit against Manny Pacquiao and his team for failing to disclose a serious shoulder injury prior to the fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr. last weekend.
After losing to Mayweather by unanimous decision, Pacquiaos camp said the fighter was trying to compete despite a severe shoulder injury. They blamed the Nevada Athletic Commission for denying him a painkilling injection prior to the fight.
The severity of Pacquiaos injury seemed to be confirmed when it was reported Monday he would undergo surgery to repair a tear in his shoulder. But what doesnt add up is that Pacquiaos team, namely adviser Michael Koncz, checked no on a box from the commission asking whether Pacquiao had a shoulder injury.
Number one, Manny didnt check the box, Koncz told the New York Daily News. I checked it. It was just an inadvertent mistake. If I was trying to hide anything, would I have listed all the medications on the sheet that he intended to use? We werent trying to hide anything. I just dont think I read the questionnaire correctly.
Pacquiao is now facing possible sanctions from the Nevada commission over his failure to disclose the injury. And that brings us back to the fan class action suit.
The fans filed suit against Pacquiao, Koncz, and Pacquiaos promoter Top Rank for hiding the injury and not disclosing it, letting Pacquiao carry on with the fight as damaged goods.
Defendants prior to and at the time the plaintiffs and the class decided to purchase tickets; purchase pay per view showings or wagered on the event the defendants knew and had full knowledge and information that defendant Pacquiao had been seriously injured and was suffering from a torn rotator cuff, the lawsuit reads via ESPN.

Oh dear. A mega-fight event that wasn’t conducted 100% on the up-and-up. I’m shocked. I feel gutted.
Dopes got duped and now they’re suing?
lolol
It’s funny that a transgression against consumers occurred? don’t see the humor.
Yeah, can you believe the nerve of some people?
Dopes go to Vegas all the time to give their money away. And whether it’s Pro-Wrestling or professional boxing, the notion that it’s fixed, rigged, pre-planned, staged and/or crooked is understood.
Some clown pays $100 to watch some dog and pony show on pay per view hardly bothers me.
I boxed and wasn’t that good. But it was always on the up and up. I didn’t box professionally. Wasn’t nearly good enough.
And the last time I would have paid NEAR 100 bucks was to see Lennox fight Klitschko in a rematch. Never happened.
Two fighters over 35, not so much.
I’m 46 now, and even though I felt my punches on the bag were harder at 38 than 22, that’s because I believe muscle may get more dense, but ALL the other skills are far lessened. I’m done babbling lol for now
Its funny that a transgression against consumers occurred? dont see the humor.
The humor is that there are still some people that watch boxing and are not aware the fix is in............
If he lied on his medical forms, he is potentially in trouble with the Nevada Athletic Commission. But I don't see the fans having a claim against him.
I don’t think the Lewis Klitchko fight was a fix. I don’t think any of Lewis’ or the two Klitchko brothers’ fights were fixed. Hand picked happens a lot more than fixed.
I agree. But what a weasel. And the guy who filed out the form is a weasel too.
A mega-fight event without the mega-fight
It's pretty sad that people can get so rich and be so dumb.
WOW. That is the kind of excuse those other politically motivated scumbags would use. You know, the scum bag that would say "what difference at this point does it make?"
Fight of the Century, huh? More like Fraud of the Century.
I split the fight with 6 others. It was a boring fight, as were the undercards. Do I feel cheated because Pacquiou wasn’t 100%, nope. For something priced comparatively how many “NFL Sunday Ticket” subscribers sue because their football team sucks?
File under “Fools and their money”.
It was just a party. If it were free, it may worth my time to watch some of it.
They were gamed. Vulnerable since there has been few non-cage, major boxing matches. Ali and Tyson are tough acts to follow.
Remember when Ali retired, a boxer named Larry Holmes ascended and dominated. However the media did not like Holmes. So he is forgotten.
The sport is about promotion first, athletic skill second, fans third.
This is why people have lost interest in boxing.
