A man snorkeling in the Colorado River near the Arizona and California border sent authorities on a hunt after he alerted them to what appeared to be "skeletal remains" at the bottom of the river.
After he called police in Arizona, authorities launched a search for the remains on Monday, and divers from the Buckskin Fire Department swam down to investigate.
To everyone's surprise -- and relief -- the skeletons, seated comfortably in lawn chairs, turned out to be fake, police said. They were even wearing sunglasses and were placed in a way as though they were having a tea party, the La Paz County Sheriff's Office said.

We had a local dive shop set something like this for their beginning divers to dive on was kind of neat to see at 25 feet below.
Probably left overs from the Weekly World News. They ran skeleton covers every other month for years.
The only time I have ever seen a human skeleton in the “wild” was in Death Valley. It had a hole in the head and there was a backpack and a pistol next to it. Someone either committed suicide or they were shot by someone else and it was set up to look like a suicide. Creepy to find that, but it made for lots of conversation while we drank ourselves silly around the campfire that night. We alerted the authorities and they came the next day to investigate.
There are enough creepy serial killers out there that my first reaction, after high tailing it out of there (or flipper tailing it) would be to alert the authorities.
