The definitive answer to the question, “If you were a tree, what kind would you be?”

Being a peace with our eventual demise is a miraculous thing.

There was a saying: “The smaller the casket, the heavier it is.”

I would bet that the Abbey caskets are beautifully made. That would be lovely.

I’m not sure how different municipalities treat a burial in just a pine box and whether regs require a cement lining.

Dunno...the curling of the body seems a very natural form.....completing the circle of life.

My Granddad was a master carpenter, and walnut trees were his favorite live tree and walnut wood was his favorite wood to use his skills with.

He used to joke about buying a section of land for burial for he and his family and their families with their favorite tree planted over them.

Only a few of us thought that he was wrong.

Of course he wanted walnut tree planted over him. The only problem was his wife wanted a pecan tree over her grave site. So they would be buried apart, not how they spent their adult lives.

They loved children and family. They joked talked about
having a park with playgrounds, lakes/ a ballfield, streams in the area, and picnics areas (they loved family picnics.

Unfortunately, he died before before he got to start/implement his plan.

I had to memorize that poem in every grade, since we lived in Joyce Kilmer’s hometown.

Or course, we sniggered every time we said “breast” or “bosom”, and thought it especially weird that “Joyce: was a MAN...and a WW1 Vet, at that!

Somebody has been reading the “Ender” series perhaps? Inspired by the Pequeninos of Lusitania?

Ha! I’ll bet there’s not a lot of people who know Kilmer was a man.

We had to memorize that in grammar school but its been so long ago I can’t remember the grade.

It did make an impression on me and even then I thought it was great.

In the Movie “The Fighting 69th”, there is a scene where a hard-boiled recruit confronts Joyce about being a poet, and also about his name. I don’t know if it’s true or not.

Anyway, because the poem cites God’s unique role in Creation, I wonder if it is even taught in public school anymore.

How does a person get into a fetal position after rigor mortis sets in?

The body does not stay in rigor.

I’d be surprised if “Trees” is still required reading and/or memorizing in public schools today because of the references to God.

Very sad that leftists have taken over the education of our young.

My ex-wife came up with what I thought was a marvelous idea: when you die you get cremated, but not at top temp, so there is more ash; the ash is then mixed with plaster of paris and made into a sculpture which can be made intoa lamp or stauary in a graden, or even mix with concrete to make a concrete bench.
