Several years ago, while traveling by rail from Shanghai to far northeastern China, the only toilet facility was a closeted hole in the floor. It rather offended my Western sensibilities, but I was in their culture and didn't want to complain. I just squatted and did what I had to do. Mr. RR only had to stand to do what he had to do. Returning to America, I nearly bowed to the beautiful porcelain, pristine toilet. God bless America.

I’ve been to about 40 countries.

Somethings in other countries are pretty nice, they would be a nice addition to our country.

But as far as plumbing goes, we are clearly ahead of the rest of the world. I would like to add bidets to our baths though.

American plumbing is the best. But, so are American window screens. How often have you seen them in your travels? Rarely, if ever for me.

Some countries feature holes in the floor. The better ones have porcelain footprints to guide your stand. All cultures are not equal.

I suppose it’s more sanitary than making flesh contact with a public toilet seat. I would assume that the toilet had pre-existing fault for it to collapse like that.

The local Boy Scout camp had a problem one time with the condition of the latrines. My troop carried it’s own toilet seat when we went there.

BTW, my grandparents didn’t have a bathroom (running water only in the kitchen) until I was 12. So I know about using the “2-holer.”
