Product Reviews are Broken (referring to Apple Watch reviews)
Above Avalon ^ | April 09, 2015 | Neil Cybart

Apple Watch reviews were published yesterday. The majority of reviewers thought the Apple Watch was a great device and has potential to be a game changer in how they use technology. The problem is that unless you read every review, you wouldn't have known that. Instead, the collective conclusion from the web yesterday was that the Apple Watch flopped with early reviews. There were 21 Apple Watch reviews published, but the 4 reviews that were more critical of the device got the most attention, leaving the 14 glowing reviews behind. Meanwhile, most of the important features of the Watch such as watch bands and durability were either not included or buried within lots of other text. Simply put: product reviews are broken. There needs to be a better way to review products.

What I really want to know is if AAPL is a buy now.

I would not be so presumptuous to make such a recommendation. All I can tell you is that I am buying AAPL. . . and holding.

It will be awhile before any statistics are released on how many were pre-ordered.

I’m sure that it has some useful features for some people, but I haven’t seen a killer app for it so far. The killer apps for my smartphone are navigation and nextbus.com.

It has navigation. . . and apps like nextbus will be available.

I am not an Apple fanboy. But I must admit the Apple Watch is already a smash success, based on preorders. It’s better than I expected, and I will likely grab one to parallel our Android watch app development. It will just get better with time. Apple is the richest company in the world.

Nextbus is actually a website, so if the watch has a browser it would be interesting to see how it looks on the screen. That being said, taking the phone out of my pocket is not inconvenient enough for me to get a peripheral with a screen.

I think the watch only works if you have an iPhone on you, which makes it redundant and pointless

I am fairly certain you are correct. I discussed that very point with someone in the cellphone industry a few months ago, and he said the same thing as you regarding the need for a phone. The watch and phone connect via bluetooth.

We have had a Samsung Gear II watch for several months now. I was the one using it to begin with, but it turns out that it is more helpful to my wife. Once you pair it with your Samsung phone, you can answer calls without digging your phone out. You can also read your texts etc. inconspicuously. It has a whole host of useful functions and features. It actually is more useful than one would tend to imagine. I am sure that the Apple watch adds similar function to the iPhone.

AAPL is currently consolidating a nearly 30 pt move over 6 weeks starting in late Jan. This parallels a similar move and consolidation last Oct. the current consolidation would suggest a price target of around 152 by the end of May.

No watch can be said to be "waterproof" under federal regulations, only "water resistant" to specific depths.

The SONY Smartwatch 3 (like their Xperia phones) is indeed waterproof, and they call it that.

It's not a watch. Under US Regulations, it can only be called "Water Resistant" if it is a WATCH and list the depth it is rated for. So they are not selling it as a time-piece. Any clam of "waterproof" is hype.

I did not say that Nestbus would be available, I said APPS like Nextbus would be available. . . they may tap Nextbus for their data. I use words precisely to say exactly what I mean.

What a bunch o idjuts on this thread. This is a tool that will be very quickly accessible FOR WHAT YOU WANT, FAST. As a woman this will be a boon to me. It takes me unlocking my little iphone purse I carry crossbody. If my hands are busy I can’t access my phone. It’s to help the phone help me.

Sheesh, people just don’t get it. This is not a useless origami napkin folder. This is to see in 1/8 of a sec who is calling, texting, the time, what meeting I’m needing reminders of. And please remember that you only have to see what you want to see.

They don't WANT to get it, Yaelle. They are acting just like Liberal Socialist Democrats using Alinsky's Rules for Radicals. Their purpose here is to make this thread and every Apple thread completely unwelcoming for the members of the Apple Ping group. They are being asshats deliberately . . . as Alinsky's Rules describe. Their purpose is to through feces, write on the walls, break windows, turn this thread into a slum, and insult people by association. There are about five or six of them and they are working in a coordinated fashion in every Apple thread.

They are acting like uncivilized juvenile delinquent brats.

Swordmaker, I know that you have too much integrity and respect for privacy to confirm it, but I’m guessing that some of these irrational Apple-hating idiots are on your ping list so that they can be alerted and add their strange comments early in the Apple threads.

“Apple will fail in their watch”

Not so sure, you are dealing with a Cult. They are programmed, resistance is futile.

What should happen next is, Samsung should make their watch fully compatible with the iPhone and software-upgradeable at 2/3 the price, not counting precious metal content.
