Homeschooling Continues to Grow
American Legislator ^ | 3-31-15 | Wes Watt

According to the latest data available, approximately 1.7 million students are homeschooled in the United States, or 3.4 percent of the total schooling population. Interestingly, the number of Hispanic families choosing to homeschool their children grew to 15 percent from 9.8 percent in 2007. Also, when asked the most important reason for choosing to homeschool their children, 91 percent of parents responded concern for the environment at other schools (safety, drugs, peer pressure, etc.).

The Silver State is known nationally as a haven for homeschooling families. According to the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) Report Card on American Education, Nevada received a “B” rating for its few homeschool regulations. Families must simply give advance notice to their local school district of their intent to homeschool. There is no curriculum approval or student testing requirements, and students are allowed to participate in the state’s High School Proficiency Exam and college entrance tests like the SAT and ACT. Since homeschoolers do not have to participate in state or district testing, there is no data on homeschooled student performance. Available research, however, suggests homeschooling is more effective at preparing students for higher education than those enrolled in traditional schools. Overall, Nevada ranks twelfth on the National Assessment of Educational Progress.

Hopefully, in an exponential rate.

To admit a public school education will soon be akin to admitting one is a Nazi. (Unlike libtard low-IQ politicians, this reference to that party - and to ps children’s reactions to those with whom they disagree - is closer to the mark.)

An exaggeration?

I think not.

when you have mostly sh!t for brains public school teachers, you get mostly sh!t for brains students who become sh!t for brains liberal democrats. Can’t imagine why home schooling is so popular.

It’s good that homeschooling continues to grow.

But are homeschooling parents teaching their children about the federal government’s constitutionally limited powers, and also 10th Amendment-protected state powers versus constitutionally protected rights?

And speaking of the 10th Amendment, are homeschooling parents also working with their local and state government leaders to make laws and policies to protect homeschooling?

We homeschooled our boys for 11 years. Best decision we ever made. That was 10 years ago.

And since the schools and the social environment have become much more corrupt even in the last 10 years, I just can't see how people still consign their kids to these spiritually, intellectually school environments which are, at best, mediocre and at worst toxic.

Dude just look at what moms buy at the supermarket. How few buy things like a whole chicken that actually needs to be cooked. It’s breaded chicken fingers and other heat and serve for an increasing large number of moms. These mothers have no desire to sacrifice their rewarding careers.

It is interesting that the number 1.7 million kids being homeschooled was used 15 years ago.

How much ya wanna bet that they don't want us to know how big that number really is.

When we are in line at Publix or WinnDixie, my boys see some of the junk people buy. It is either Frozen dinner, or canned pasta (like Chef Boy R Dee) or whatever is quick.

We are busy and even when we are not home until late, we either have a crock pot on or a Nu Wave Oven (got it at a pawn shop for $5) or we make something quick but good. I think the last time my boys had a TV dinner was 7 months ago...

I’m writing a book called “The Hobit,” but it’s missing a character.

Homeschooled all 5 of our kids. 2 are out of undergrad and 1 is still in college. One of the college grads will be attending medical school in the fall and the other one is already working with a decent job. While growing up, they were teased by the neighborhood kids that they would not amount to anything because they were homeschooled, yet it is those same kids that are now unemployed or drug addicts. Overall, our experience with homeschooling has been very successful, and I encourage all to consider it.

...as EBT recipients. That's what *I* see at the store; people using my tax money to buy convenience foods when they don't even have jobs.
