Will this list also enable us to ask questions like:

Is it feasible finanacially to upgrade a Windows Vista or XP machine to Windows 7 so I can get the free upgrade to Windows 10?

Well, I’ll just drop by once in a while, on my own, so no on the ping list, for right now. And I’ll never be a troll here, disrupting and harassing!

I haven’t run Windows on my Mac, but I know it can be done, easily, and done while running the Mac OS as the main system. Of course, the Windows can be run on its own, too.

I do have to try and help a couple of relatives with their Windows machines and I feel awkward trying to help them ... although I can usually handle it ...

Yes. However, the lists have to be either a csv or text file.

A pdf file won’t cut it with me.

Nothing's wrong with Linux -- my primary workstation at work is CentOS, with a Windows 7 VM under Xen.

Which I installed, on purpose! :)

He’s a Linux spy.

If I’m lucky I get a csv. Most of the time it’s just a list of user names in the body of the email.

I’ve got a custom function added to the ISE that lets me copy it out of the email, and paste it into the ISE, already wrapped in the code to make it an array.

Add me please but if I have to reboot every time I’m pinged, I won’t be happy. ;)

If this is something you want to do, keep it to pure tech (related to Microsoft if you want), neutral but critical if it demands it. Not the type of fanboy nonsense those guy like to.

Perish the thought. The ping automatically reboots for you. Even if you're not logged on.

Sure! You can certainly ask questions like that! And given the huge breadth of knowledge on FreeRepublic, you'll find you have the answer in fairly short order.

My opinion on your question: I haven't worked the numbers but if you can find a copy of Win7 Pro pretty cheap (and they are going for pretty cheap now that regular support has ended and it's on extended support, meaning no new features), my guess is that it's worth it.

In my opinion, Win 7 has it all over XP and Vista. XP was great for its time but it's wildly obsolete and insecure by comparison. And Vista was just a turkey. Win 7 came out real nice and works great -- that's what I'm running on all my production Windows boxes (other than testing systems). Win 10 looks to be another winner like 7.

Okay, ST, that's fine. I look forward to your occasional comments. FWIW, I have two copies of Win7 on my Mac Mini -- one is a VM in VMware Fusion, for running alongside the Mac applications, and the other as BootCamp for when I need to dedicate all the Mini's horsepower to a Windows task.

Some years ago Apple ran an ad campaign about how the best hardware to run Windows on for the money was actually a Mac (a MacBook Pro, I think). It's true.

I find Windows to be wonderfully stable and fast on Mac hardware. Who knew?

At home I'm also running it on my Fujitsu notebook and a few vanilla desktops, and it does well there too.

At work it's mostly rackmount servers, enterprise quality, so of course they're fine...

I forgot the vast majority of what linux I ever used or knew.

I read about Linux academy and might sign up for that.
